Contemporary guitar duo to perform at Kent State University at Stark



Kent State University at Stark Music Department presents a dual guitar concert by Les Frères Méduses (the Jellyfish Brothers), featuring Randall Avers and Benoit Albert, on Thursday, Nov. 3 at noon in Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The concert is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.



Les Frères Méduses perform historical and contemporary music that is up-tempo and energetic. Original compositions and free improvisation are also included in every program.



Albert and Avers began their collaborations at the Conservatoire de Paris in 1999. They performed throughout France for two years, winning the 1ère prix in chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris and began working independently. The duo resumed collaborations in 2008, with a matured approach to concertizing and programming. Their musical programs are crafted around a large body of music that includes classical, jazz, pop, Balkan, Brazilian and folk. They add to the visual concepts of performance by using painters, scenic designers and dancers.



Since 2009, Les Frères Méduses have performed more than 60 concerts in the United States, France and Norway, both as a duo and as soloists with orchestra. They interviewed and performed live for PBS KUHF in Houston, and interviewed with the internationally syndicated Classical Guitar AliveI radio show. In 2010, the duo released their recording, Ten Years After, as well as the live DVD, Live at the Theatre Ducourneau.



Avers, a native of Massillon, Ohio, began his classical guitar studies at the age of six. He studied at seven different universities and conservatories throughout the United States and Europe. From the time he was 17, he competed internationally, winning prestigious prizes, including the GF of America award. He performs throughout North America and Europe and toured North Africa and Egypt as a U.S. artistic ambassador. Avers resides in Norway and teaches guitar at the Røyken Videregående Steinerskole near Oslo. In 2010, he was awarded the Kunstnerstipend, an artist's stipend, by the Norwegian government.



Albert grew up in la Charente, located in the southwestern region of France. Inspired by pop and rock music, he began classical guitar studies at the age of 14. In a short time, he earned a place at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he graduated with top honors. As a performer, he tours with a variety of ensembles in many locales, including Venezuela and Malaysia. He has recorded seven CDs, two of which are entirely his own compositions. Albert teaches guitar at the Conservatory of Music and Dance in Agen.
