The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival Announces the 15th Season of FREE Shakespearean Theater 
 
The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, Cleveland’s only source for FREE, outdoor Shakespearean theater, proudly announces its 15th Season opening in June 2012.  This season, CSF will be presenting William Shakespeare’sThe Merchant of Venice, directed by Brian Zoldessy, and Henry VIII, directed by David Hanson.
 
Brian Zoldessy (Director, The Merchant of Venice):   Since 1991, Brian has been professor and Director of the Theatre Arts Department at Cuyahoga Community College.  As a professional actor, Brian has worked in New York, L.A., Chicago, and Cleveland (Times Tribute Awards for Outstanding Performances and Direction), and has appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in television, and in films.  A winner of two Kennedy Center’s Irene Ryan Acting and Directing Awards, he has directed and produced over 60 award winning productions.  Brian has also served as theatre faculty for both the Special Studies Program at the Chautauqua Institution, the Beck Center Conservatory program and the Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory.  Last year Ohio Magazine and Crain’s Business Cleveland named Brian one of Ohio’s top educators of Theatre.  Brian is a published poet and is the author of The Theatre Appreciation Workbook: Exercises and Activities.  He was one of
 the original directors for The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival (1998-2003).

   
David Hansen (Director, Henry VIII) is the Associate Residency Supervisor for Great Lakes Theater Festival’s Education Department and a member of the Cleveland Play House Playwrights Unit.  David is a 2010 Creative Workforce Fellow, a program of the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, generously funded by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.  David was a co-founder of Guerrilla Theater Company, founded Dobama’s Night Kitchen, and was Artistic Director for Bad Epitaph Theater Company.  David has directed numerous plays at such theaters as The Beck Center, Bad Epitaph, Dobama’s Night Kitchen, and Guerrilla Theater Company.  As an actor, David has performed such Shakespearean roles as the Ghost in Hamlet (Bad Epitaph), Prince Escalus in Romeo and Juliet (Guerrilla Theater), Pistol in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Adrian in The Tempest (Great Lakes Theater), and at Cleveland Shakespeare Festival as Bardolph in Henry IV.  He was also in The Complete
 Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at Beck Center.
