CLEVELAND, Ohio—“Cleveland, I Love You,” a collaboration of the city’s most
acclaimed writers, directors, producers and actors, announces today that Busy Phillips,
star of the television series “Cougar Town,” has joined the cast of this ambitious, first-ofits
kind project.
Phillips will star in one of 11 short films that comprise the “Cleveland, I Love You”
feature film project. The vignette, written by Karey Dornetto (“South Park,”
“Community,” “Arrested Development”), will be directed in February by Hollywood
director and Shaker Heights native Jamie Babbit (“United States of Tara,” “The Middle,”
“But I’m a Cheerleader”).
Phillips won a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Critic’s Choice Television
award in 2011 for her portrayal of Laurie Keller in “Cougar Town.” Her impressive
resume also includes significant roles on the television series “Freaks and Geeks,”
“Dawson’s Creek” and “ER,” and in the films “White Chicks,” “Made of Honor” and
“He’s Just Not That Into You.”
Phillips joins approximately 100 other actors from Northeast Ohio who are cast in
“Cleveland, I Love You.” The film is independently funded and features an all-local
crew. Inspired by the film anthologies “Paris, Je t’Aime” and “New York, I Love You,”
the 11 stories that comprise the feature film are the effort of five writers and six directors.
“We are tremendously excited to welcome Busy to our very talented cast,” said Eric
Swinderman, a producer, writer and director of the film. “She brings tremendous
credibility to this ambitious project.”
Filming of the 11 short films began in November 2011 and will continue through March
2012, with an expected release date in Summer 2012.
"Adding a distinguished star like Ms. Phillips vastly increases our
chances of a wide spread distribution deal," says Producer Mark Pengryn.
"Those that have already chosen to invest in the film should be
extremely excited as this news greatly increases their potential profit
margin. Those that have been thinking of investing in the film should
view this new information as a very positive reason to jump on board."
