Almost Maine

Written By John Cariani

Directed by Bob Ellis

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not
quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As
the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's
residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and
often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the
bruises heal, and the hearts mend-almost-in this delightful midwinter
night's dream. This charming romantic comedy will be directed by
Western Campus Theatre Coordinator Bob Ellis. Looking for actors from
Early 20's - Mid 40's

Character Breakdown: ALMOST, MAINE

Prologue / Epilogue / Interlude

Pete - playful, perhaps a little shy, a little intellectual

Ginette- impulsive, outwardly emotional, may over react a bit

Her Heart:

East- is a repairman, he fixes things. Blue collar, nice, excellent
listener

perhaps a bit of a romantic

Glory - a hiker. Camping out to see the Northern lights. She's
youthful, vibrant, believes

completely in what she is doing and what she thinks.
Matter of fact.

Sad and Glad:

Jimmy - a little pathetic, wears his heart on his sleeve, finds it hard
to move forward,

                   perhaps a little self-loathing

Sandrine - pretty, nice smile, seems a little out of Jimmy's league,
pressed for time due
to friends being at bar, compassionate, hard to
hurt others

Waitress /Villain- very friendly, fun, energetic server, you would give
her a great tip!

but also perceptive, she's seen it
all

This Hurts:

Marvalyn - protects herself, compassionate to others, was going to be a
nurse, going

through a rough patch with boyfriend
right now

Steve - trusting, kind, perhaps a little gullible, doesn't feel any pain
due to lack of pain

                                receptors

Getting it Back:

Gayle -Lendall's longtime girlfriend, emotional, a little dramatic,
finally making a

decision about her life with Lendall

Lendall - Gayle's longtime boyfriend, solid, a little underplayed, not
too much fazes

                    h

They Fell:

Chad - a regular guy, county boy, blue collar, bad luck with women,
loves hanging out

                with Randy

Randy - also a regular guy, blue collar, REALLY bad luck with women,
loves to chill

                  with Chad

Where it Went:

Marci - a hardworking wife, great with her kids, doesn't always speak
what she feels,

just kind of "goes along" to get along

Phil - a hardworking husband and father, logs lots of overtime at the
mill to pay for kids

sports, resents Marci to some extent, he's lost that
loving feeling

Story of Hope:

Hope - an out of towner, hopeful, (duh) guilt-ridden, a little desperate

Daniel - quiet, small, a shell of what he used to be, he has lost hope

Seeing the Thing:

Rhonda - a tough woman, loves to snowmobile, thinks of men as "buds",

perhaps a little naive and sweet because of it

Dave - a not so tough man, sweet, absolutely in love with Rhonda

APPOINTMENTS NECESSARY.
