LCCC Signature Series Concert to Feature Pianist Michelle Cann

Piano phenom Michelle Cann will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m.,
Thursday, February 23 at Lorain County Community College's Stocker Arts
Center.

Cann's performance is part of the Signature Series and is hosted by
composer and LCCC Distinguished Professor Jeffrey Mumford. The concert
is sponsored by LCCC's arts and humanities division. Admission is free.

The concert will include works by Bach, Chopin and Debussy.

Cann began studying piano at the age of 7 and since then has placed in
various state, national and international competitions, including the
Music Teachers National Association Competition, the International
Russian Piano Music Competition, the Gilmore Piano Foundation
Competition, and the Blount Young Artists National Competition. She made
her orchestral debut at the age of 14 and since then has been invited to
perform with various orchestras including the Florida Orchestra, Tampa
Bay Symphony, Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Cleveland
Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra. 

At the age of 12 she appeared on NPR station WUSF 89.7 in Florida with
her sister Kimberly, also a concert pianist, and later performed on the
nationally broadcasted radio show, "From the Top," hosted by pianist,
Christopher O' Riley. She has worked with many esteemed artists,
including world-renowned pianists Paul Schenly, Daniel Shapiro, Joela
Jones, Sergei Babyan, Jerome Lowenthal and Richard Goode.  During past
summers Michelle has been chosen as one of two pianists accepted into
the Taos Chamber Music Festival and School, and one of three into the
Perlman Music Program Chamber Music festival directed by renowned
violinist Itzhak Perlman. Other engagements for Cann include
performances in the South Hampton Cultural Center, Brookhaven National
Laboratory, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Cold Springs
Harbor Laboratory.

Most recently, Cann was selected to perform with current students and
alumni of the Curtis Institute of Music in Beijing and Shanghai, China
and Seoul, Korea. Cann is currently an Artist Diploma student of Robert
McDonald at the Curtis Institute of Music.
