[NEohioPAL] "donation reconsideration" - response to Vicki Fritzman re: rules of "once a week posting"

Hi Vicki,

I appreciate your opinion and am glad that it promoted a healthy discussion
on the list today.

Just to clarify, Edward Niam <http://www.taichicleveland.com/> was asked to
limit the "thought for the day" postings to once a week. He hasn't been
banned from posting. He then sent out a posting asking people to sign up
for his private list, so certainly you haven't been denied access to his
important inspirational messages as you can opt for that mailing list.

In terms of the big picture of what should be posted to Neohiopal, it isn't
a perfect system, and I'm sure it might seem arbitrary to you some time,
but Noah Budin <http://www.noahbudin.com/> and I do the best we can to
moderate.

We try to be consistent with the "rules." These were set up to provide some
criteria for what would be of interest to the list as a whole, as it would
be impossible to customize the list to each of the 6,200 subscriber's
personal agendas.

It is difficult to be totally consistent because it is hard to remember if
someone has posted about the same topic recently or not. We can't analyze
the archives every time we get a posting, so that is why you see some
postings more than once a week. I do analyze the archives once a week and
if I see that certain postings were let through multiple times I put the
poster on a "watch" list so that I can catch it the next time.

Over the years, people have asked me to ban reviews, high school
productions and many other topics. Previously, after a few complaints, I polled
the list about the inclusion of reviews and about selling
items<http://www.fredsternfeld.com/faqs.htm#approval>and those polls
were elucidating but time consuming. As you can imagine, it
would be impossible to poll the whole list about every posting, so it falls
to Noah and I to try to make smart decisions about what to post.

Please check out the "mission statement" and "instructions how to post" on
this page for more information about the "rules" :

Warm Regards,

Fred Sternfeld
