The Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory is proud to announce their auditions for the SUMMER 2012 SEASON!!!

This year FPAC will be producing:

AUDITION DATES, TIMES, LOCATION & PREPERATION 
The auditions will be: Saturday, April 28, 2012, 1:00 – 6:00pm Sunday, April 29, 2012, 6:00 – 10:00pm Monday, April 30, 2012, 6:00 – 10:00pm

Callbacks will be Saturday and Sunday, May 5 & 6, 2012

Both the auditions and the callbacks will be held at the Mayfield Village Civic Center.

To make an audition appointment, call the Fairmount Center at 440-338-3171, Mondays - Fridays, 9:00am -4:00pm starting on March 26, 2012.

For the auditions, please prepare an objective driven memorized musical selection for each show, one in the style of Little Women and one in the style of Urinetown. Each of these two pieces need to be approximately 16 bars in length and both musical pieces should last no longer than 3 minutes when they are both timed together. Please, bring a head shot, resume and sheet music in the correct key - an accompanist will be provided. Please do not sing from Little Women or Urinetown and absolutely no a capella singing will be accepted. Also, please prepare a one minute memorized monologue from a play.

If you are new to FPAC, this audition will also serve as your audition for FPAC's "Professional Training Program."

ROLES, ELIGIBILITY AND TUITION 
Upon acceptance into each show, you must attend at least 1 session (full or half day; 1, 2 or 3 week) of FPAC 2012 Summer Training.

CASTING ANNOUNCEMENT 
You will be notified of the casting for the shows via the Fairmount Performing Arts Center’s web site some time during the week of May 8, 2012.

LITTLE WOMEN: Production Details 

REHEARSALS 
• Music and dance rehearsals will start on May 27, 2012. They will be picked from weekday evenings and/or weekend afternoons.

• Blocking rehearsals start on June 9. Rehearsals from June 9 – June 17 will be picked from weekdays, Noon -5:00pm OR 5:00 – 9:30pm, and Saturday afternoons and Sunday afternoons and/or evenings.

• June 18 – June 29; Weekdays, 4:30 - 8:30pm or 6:00 – 10:00pm. During these weeks there will be Saturday OR Sunday rehearsals, but not both.

• June 30 – July 5. Tech week and dress rehearsals. 6:00 - 10:00pm at MVCC. No rehearsal or FPAC training will take place on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

If rehearsals are late afternoon, then each day at 5:30pm or 6:00pm there will be a half hour break for dinner.

PERFORMANCES 
Little Women will be performed for a two week run at the Mayfield Village Civic Center: Friday July 6 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 7 at 7:30pm, Sunday, July 8 at 2:00pm, Wednesday, July 11 at 7:30pm, Thursday, July 12 at 7:30pm, Friday, July 13 at 7:30pm, Saturday, July 14 at 7:30pm and Sunday, July 15 at 2:00pm.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS Jo March (Mezzo with belt) Lead role requiring both comedic & dramatic skill. A very spirited, passionate writer. She is strong-willed, tomboyish and a very liberal woman ahead of her time.

Meg March (Lyric soprano) The eldest daughter and the beauty of the family - a romantic who wants more from life than just working as a governess. Struggles to fit into society despite her family's poverty.

Amy March (Soprano) A willful girl who is not content to be the "baby" of the family. A painter who is pretentious, spoiled, and quite the firecracker. Actor should be able to play both the 12-year-old and adult versions of Amy.

Beth March (Light soprano) Nervous and shy on the outside but has an inner strength. A musician. Devoted to duty and social caring for others, even at the expense of herself. She is a peace-maker, and always sees the good in everyone.

Marmee (Alto/Mezzo) Mother to Jo, Meg, Amy, & Beth. A compassionate, strong woman who cares deeply about her children and her community.

Aunt March (Mezzo) The pretentious, crotchety, & difficult matriarch of the family. Widowed, wealthy and willing to try anything to maintain her influence over Marmee and her girls. This role may be double cast with Mrs. Kirk.

Laurie (Tenor) Charming, intelligent, bighearted but often hopeless. He loves Jo dearly, but quickly is rejected when he proposes. He later travels to Europe and meets, Amy, whom he marries.

Mr. Brooke (Baritone) Laurie's tutor. Slightly shy, stiff and mildly awkward. He is completely entranced with Meg.

Mr. Laurence (Baritone) Laurie's curmudgeon grandfather and guardian, determined to make Laurie forget his own dreams and join the family business. His gruff, opinionated exterior hides his heart of gold.

Professor Bhaer (Baritone). A well respected German philosophy professor, who serves as Jo’s mentor. Silently adores Jo and announces his love for her at the end of the show. (German accent is a plus)

Mrs. Kirk (Mezzo) The middle-aged Irish owner of the boarding house at which Jo stays. This role may be doubled cast with Aunt March. (Irish accent a plus)

Ensemble Characters from Jo’s books and townspeople. The characters from “An Operatic Tragedy” may be cast from the ensemble or will be double cast utilizing the principal characters.

URINETOWN: Production Details 
REHEARSALS 
• Music and dance rehearsals will begin during the production run of Little Women. July 7 in the morning/afternoon at MVCC, July 8 in the evening immediately following the matinee performance of Little Women at MVCC, July 9 & 10 from 4:30 - 8:30pm at HB, OR 6:00 – 9:30pm at MVCC, July 14 in the morning/afternoon at MVCC and July 15 in the evening immediately following the final matinee of Little Women at MVCC.

• July 16 – August 3; Weeknights, 4:30 - 8:30pm at HB, OR 6:00 – 9:30pm at MVCC; Saturday and Sunday afternoons and/or evenings.

• August 4 – August 9. Tech week and dress rehearsals. 6:00 - 10:00pm at MVCC.

If rehearsals are late afternoon, then each day at 5:30pm or 6:00pm there will be a half hour break for dinner.

PERFORMANCES 
Urinetown will be performed for two weekends at the Mayfield Village Civic Center on Friday, August 10 at 7:30pm, Saturday August 11 at 7:30pm, Sunday, August 12 at 2:00pm, Wednesday, August 15 at 7:30pm, Thursday, August 16 at 7:30pm, Friday, August 17 at 7:30pm, Saturday, August 18 at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 19 at 2:00pm.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS 
***The director is looking for performers who will make strong acting choices and bold characterizations.***

Bobby Strong (Tenor) The assistant custodian at the poorest urinal in town. Becomes the rebel leader of the poor revolution against Caldwell B. Cladwell. Falls in love with Hope.

Hope Cladwell (Soprano) Cladwell’s good-hearted daughter. Fresh out of college and about to work at her father’s company, the Urine Good Company (UGC). A naïve girl who believes there is good in everyone. Falls in love with Bobby.

Caldwell B. Cladwell (Bass-Baritone) CEO of UGC. The greedy, vicious and scheming villain of the show. Views people as animals who are easily overpowered.

Officer Lockstock (Baritone) Narrator of the show and Leader of the Police. A figure of authority who carries out Caldwell B. Cladwell’s orders to precision. A confident cop with a dry sense of humor.

Little Sally (Mezzo Soprano) One of the rebels and also narrates the show. With her teddy bear always in hand, Sally has an innocent and caring nature about her. Traditionally played as the shortest and the youngest member of the cast.

Penelope Pennywise (Alto with high belt) The proprietor of Public Amenity Number 9, the poorest urinal in town. She is always searching for a quick buck and is ruthless in her attack.

Officer Barrel (Baritone) Officer Lockstock’s tightly wound right hand man. Has a nasal/brat like quality to his voice and needs to be shorter than Lockstock.

Josephine Strong (Mezzo/Soprano) Bobby’s strong-willed mother who often faints. Has a comedic “old lady” character voice.

Hot Blades Harry (Baritone/Tenor) A dangerous and unpredictable man. Featured heavily in the West Side Story number, “Snuff that Girl”. Looking for a strong triple threat performer. This role may be doubled as “Old Man” Strong.

Little Becky Two-Shoes (Alto) One of the poor rebels who’s a little crazy and likes to hurt people. Featured heavily in the West Side Story number, “Snuff that Girl”. Looking for a strong triple threat performer.

Joseph ‘Old Man’ Strong (Baritone/Tenor) Bobby’s rebellious father whose actions begin the poor people’s revolution. This role may be doubled cast with Hot Blades Harry.

Rebel Ensemble Featured ensemble members: Soupy Sue, Tiny Tom, Robby the Stockfish and Billy Boy Bill. Additional rebels will be cast based on acting, singing, dancing and comic timing abilities.

UCG/Police Ensemble Featured ensemble members: Senator Fipp, Mr. McQueen, Dr. Billeaux, Cladwell’s Secretary and Mrs. Millenium. Additional UCG Executives/Police will be cast based on acting, singing, dancing and comic timing abilities.
