"LAST SUMMER AT BLUEFISH COVE"*

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO –Jane Chambers’ ground-breaking drama, LAST SUMMER AT
BLUEFISH COVE will close out the Oakland’s season, running from June 8
through 23.

Long before *The L Word* or “Ellen,” *Last Summer at Bluefish Cove* was the
first literary piece of its kind to openly deal with lesbian relationships.
Its story of eight women–friends, lovers and partners who spend each
summer together–was truly the trailblazer of its time.

A group of gay women who meet every summer at an isolated beach resort,
Bluefish Cove, find their vacation unsettled by two events. First is the
fact that their friend Lil has terminal cancer. Second is the arrival of
Eva Margolis, a heterosexual woman who has just left her husband and is
unaware that the cabin she has rented is intended for lesbians who value
their privacy…

What follows is a funny and touching story of the friendships, the love,
the fears of being "outed," how being gay affects relationships with
children, parents and careers, and what a painful price it extracted in
America 30 years ago. This play was one of the first to treat these themes
with respect. Chambers’ comedic dialogue, sensitivity to human nature and
tender treatment of her characters help the play transcend preconceptions
and show the universality of these women’s journeys, whether straight or
gay.

The Oakland is delighted to be featuring eight gifted local actresses in
this production, directed by one of the area’s most respected directors,
Christopher Fidram (*Dinner With Friends, Circle Mirror Transformation*).

Performance dates are Friday and Saturday, June 8- 9, 15-16, 22-23 at 8:00
PM each night. Ticket prices are: Adult $15, Senior $12 (55 and older),
Student $10 (with a valid ID).

Reservations can be made by calling 330-746-0404. The theatre is located
in downtown Youngstown at 220 W. Boardman Street.

There will be an opening night reception immediately following the
performance on June 8.
