*The Story*

Luke believes in God. Adam believes in everything else. "Next Fall"
portrays the ups and downs of this unlikely couple’s five-year relationship
with sharp humor and unflinching honesty. And when an accident changes
everything, Adam must turn to Luke’s family and friends for support… and
answers. "Next Fall" paints a beautiful and funny portrait of modern
romance, asking the hard questions about commitment, love, and faith.

*- 2010 Tony Award Nominee for Best Play *
*- 2010 Drama Desk Nominee for Outstanding Play*

*"The funniest heart breaker in town! NEXT FALL embodies something
theatergoers have been sorely missing, perhaps without knowing it, for
years. A smart, sensitive, immensely appealing and utterly contemporary New
York comedy."* —NY Times.

*"Five Stars. The best new American play of the Broadway season, NEXT FALL
leaves you thinking about rapture and rupture. If you go, which you should,
be prepared to laugh some, perhaps to cry some, and then to rise in
appreciation."* —Time Out NY.

*"Compassionate, laugh-filled and enormously entertaining. Geoffrey Nauffts
invests the play with a generosity that doesn't prejudge, embracing both
the virtues and foibles of his characters. And that inclusion makes NEXT
FALL an even richer experience."* —Associated Press.

*"A daring new drama."* —Entertainment Weekly.
*
*
* "Deeply moving and surprisingly funny. Geoffrey Nauffts reveals a talent
for sharp comic dialogue. He draws all his characters with surprising
depth."* —Hollywood Reporter.

*Character Breakdown *

** All ages are flexible*

*Adam (40-45)* An atheist and a hypochondriac with a sharp, witty mind but
an inability to trust his own happiness

*Luke (late20s/ early 30s)* Born-again gay Christian, attractive, innocent,
aspiring NY actor. Luke just wants Adam to believe in God (so he won’t go
to hell).

*Arlene – (50ish)* Luke’s mother, a reformed wild-woman of Southern-fried
eccentricities.

*Butch - (50ish)* Hard nosed, right wing, Southern born-again Christian. He
is Luke’s homophobic father, who believes in Creationism. He raised Luke
after he found God and his mother, Arlene, continued to party.

*Holly - (30-40)* A candle store owner and Adam’s best friend and
confidante. Her faith resides in self-help groups and 12 step programs. She
is compassionate and witty.

*Brandon (20-30)* A successful friend of Luke’s. Deeply religious, reserved
and serious. He has even deeper issues with his homosexuality than Luke and
is unaccepting of his friend’s relationship with Adam..
