Reminder - auditions tomorrow for Love in a Time of Media at Tri-C
Metropolitan Campus.

Announcing auditions for the new play "Love in a Time of Media" (by Sasha
Thackaberry) that will be presented at this year's Big Box series at
Cleveland Public Theater. There are four characters, and we're looking for
the right chemistry as it is an ensemble piece where all four parts are
critical to the success of the piece. Amanda Lin Boyd is directing, and
Peter Voinovich is doing coaching and assisting with the video portions.
The piece will rehearse mainly in February and goes up for one weekend -
February 28 - March 2.
Auditions will be from 6 - 9 on Monday, October 1 at the Metro Campus of
Tri-C (MLA 101.) Directions and info:

The best way to come in is to come from the Woodland Avenue side into
parking Lot 5 or 6 (which is really a parking garage is underneath the
buildings.) If you come in Lot 5, take the first left inside the garage.
You'll see a mural by the center for Creative Arts. Just past that, you'll
see a staircase labeled "Language Arts." Park around there (there are
numbered visitor slots, there are machines for those.) Go up the
staircase, take a right at the first hallway, go down until you see a
larger hallway, take a right, you'll see MLA 102 at the end of the hall,
MLA 101 is just to the left of that.

Once you're there, if you get lost, just call my cell (216) 224-9045.

Find a little bit about the piece and the characters below...
Love in a Time of Media is a piece about the complex nature of love in a
world saturated with technology. At the core, however, the piece is not
about the complications of technology –it is simply a story about a boy and
a girl deciding if they are going to move forward through life together,
with the temptation of comfort all around - comfort of habit, comfort of
fantasy, comfort of believing in the correctness of an individual world
view. The first act reveals the disintegration of their relationship, and
the second act sees each of them struggling to avoid their independent
self-evaluations.
Act I

The vehicle for the first act is an interview conducted in a Storycorps van
(http://www.npr.org/series/4516989/storycorps). Half of the entire first
act is video. Boston, Jake's best friend, is interviewing Jake and Lola
about their love story. The interview portions are displayed via video, and
the events that they discuss are performed live. Minor betrayals become
magnified in the stark circumstances of the interview, and complications
are revealed. The act ends with Jake and Lola going their separate ways.

Act II

The second act sees both seeking confirmation for their own perspectives on
their failed relationship. Lola immediately jumps into a new relationship,
while Jake shutters himself with his best friend Boston interpreting away
the 4 year partnership. Both Jake and Lola are tempted – by the allure of a
life that confirms their views, and by lovers that facilitate that
confirmation. They struggle to decide who they want to be and then both
jump out of safety into what might be the best or worst love affair of
their lives – a total blinding (and yet strangely open-eyed,) commitment to
each other.

JAKE – a mid-thirties actor, talented and moderately successful but
unambitious. He is mild-mannered, easy-going, but somehow distant.

LOLA – a mid-twenties powerhouse, Type-A professional woman. High
maintenance but clever and pretty, so she gets away with it.

BOSTON - JAKE's best friend, lesbian rocker chick who – like JAKE – floats
through life relatively unencumbered by reality and commitment. She lives
with her dad to support her habit of fronting a local rock band, while
successfully avoiding work.

BAILEY (aka Swing Dancing Guy) - Successful, published professor at a local
college. Professional and kind, engaged in the world, everything that JAKE
is not.
Please join us for these auditions. Thanks for considering it!
