[NEohioPAL] Casting Call and paying for the privilege....

Congratulations! Welcome to the world of the playwright. We are routinely required to pay a fee to submit our work, and often also required to pay something toward the production. For theaters that would not exist without our seminal work. (note, many of us refuse to pay fees, and there is a growing movement to abolish them)

The more artists get "mad as hell" and don't "take it any more" (thank you, Paddy Chayefsky), the less others will be enabled to use our hard work for their own gain.

Respectfully,
Deb

It has appeared, in the past, that the exclusive casting calls with this agency were for friends of the agency were doing zero budget projects for which the payment was lunch and, maybe, a copy of the finished project (if ever completed). And for this you pay a yearly fee? Really? If I am wrong, I would love to see some proof of their validity. In communication with this agency in the past, when I asked them about the fact that SAG and legitimate casting agencies DO NOT ask for money up front, as referenced here:

I started up a conversation quite a while back with one of the principles in this company, and when I pointed out the rules from SAG-AFTRA, I was basically told to mind my own business, and that I would receive no more responses from them in regard to this matter.

An agency should be making their money off fees charged to production for services rendered, NOT off the people they represent.
