2013 Cain Park Theater Auditions
on March 6, 9-10 for
SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE
Music and Lyrics by JERRY LIEBER & MIKE STOLLER
Directed by SCOTT PLATE
Music Directed by NATHAN MOTTA
Choreography by GREGORY DANIELS

PERFORMANCE DATES/TIMES: June 13-30, 2013 in Cain Park’s Alma Theater.
Thursdays-Saturdays at 7 pm, Sundays at 2 pm.
REHEARSALS begin May 13 and usually occur weekday evenings and day/evening hours on weekends at the Cleveland Heights Community Center.

AUDITION DATES/TIMES
AUDITION APPOINTMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS OF FEBRUARY 5th by calling

Wednesday, March 6 — 6-11pm EQUITY PRINCIPAL
   Non-Equity may audition on March 6 but no specific appointment time will be reserved.  Non-Equity should call and ask to be placed on a list of those who will be heard between Equity audition appointments.
Saturday, March 9 — 11am-5pm EQUITY & NON-EQUITY
Sunday, March 10 – 10am-4pm CALLBACKS
   Singing, reading from the script, and movement

Free parking at Community Center. Parking lot can only be entered from Monticello.

CASTING NEEDS — ALL ROLES OPEN
THE QUARTET (African-American male quartet based on The Drifters):
                  KEN: the smoothie
                  ADRIAN: the “slow,” soulful one
                  FREDERICK: the bass, has seen it all
                  VICTOR: the preening bad boy
BRENDA (African-American): a combination of savvy, wit, brains and beauty
B.J. (African-American): inspired by the Rhythm & Blues diva Big Mama Thornton
MICHAEL (White): genuinely suave and impressive, evokes the memory of Elvis
PATTIE (White): the throaty voice of experience
DELEE (White): suggests the innocence of teenage girls with a wild streak
Cain Park is committed to non-traditional casting.  Actors will be cast solely on the basis of talent, except in cases where age, race or physical ability is essential to a role.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
1. 18-40 years old
2. Memorize/prepare two 32-bar cuts in the style of the show (Rhythm & Blues, classic Motown or R&B-flavored rock ‘n’ roll)
3. Bring sheet music in the proper key (accompanist is provided).  NO TAPED MUSIC ALLOWED.  Please note...you will not be allowed to audition without sheet music.
4. Bring your current resume and a current headshot, which will be retained by Cain Park.
5. Check your calendar for any conflicts before auditioning (see performance dates and rehearsal dates above).

COMPENSATION
Salaried AEA contracts are available and EMC (Equity Membership Candidate) may be available.   Non-Equity actors appearing in Cain Park productions will be paid a modest stipend.  Non-Equity actors cast in the production also may be eligible for college credit.  Call 216-291-5796 for details.
