Celebrate the Chinese New Year (the Year of the Snake) with an enjoyable and educational program for the whole family. Four members of the Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble will perform festive Chinese melodies on an assortment of exotic traditional wind, string, andpercussion instruments, interspersed with stories about New Year traditions from China's rich and colorful history. As an added attraction, younger listeners will be invited to try out the ensemble's drums, gongs, and cymbals for a participatory finale.

The ensemble's instruments will include dizi and xiao (bamboo flutes), sheng (mouth organ), xun (ocarina), gaohu and yehu (fiddles), pipa (pear-shaped lute), yueqin (moon lute), guzheng (zither), and percussion.

This will be the first appearance in Geauga County for the Ensemble, which has presented nearly 100 programs of Chinese music throughout Ohio since its establishment in 2008.

The event, which is sponsored by the Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public and takes place in the library's meeting room; arrive early for the best seats. Additionally, fortune cookies will be served.

Bainbridge is located in western Geauga County, just to the east of Chagrin Falls.
