Synopsis:
Dead to Me is a kindhearted
absurdist bluegrass comedy about Gary, a 20’s failing musician who just wants
to win his high school sweetheart back.  With no job prospects, Gary returns to his rural hometown where he’s
haunted by his memories of Emily.  After meeting old friends and new acquaintances Gary hatches a plan to
gain back her love: a fake funeral where he can poetically declare his love for
her.  The problem?  Gary has to keep a crowd of drunks,
show boaters, and gun nuts at bay long enough for her to hear the message.

Character Descriptions:
Gary, a mid 20’s heartbroken
musician.  Always nostalgic he’s
pathetic and he knows it.  His
desire to win his high school sweetheart back clouds his common sense and leads
to absurd shenanigans.

Emily, a mid 20’s quirky and
strong willed female.  She doesn’t
hate Gary but she’s not in love with him anymore and to her it’s as simple as
that.  She knows Gary needs to move
on and believes it’s unhealthy to dwell in the past.  Loves to laugh and live life to the fullest.

Ethan, a late teens rural
eccentric who spends most of his time alone in the woods. A longtime loyal
friend of Gary’s who, like any good friend, loves to tease Gary.  The only thing he’d like to see more
than Gary fall on his face in hilarious failure is for Gary to be happy.

Purple Haired Girl, an 9-12
year old girl who likes wearing mixed matched clothes and being
eccentric...definitely home schooled.  She’s witty and intelligent beyond her years and often teaches grownups
more than they teach her.

Preacher, 30s-40’s male with
a loud and slow southern draw.  He
desires to run the show and keep friendly manners even in the face of chaos.

Aunt Mildred, 50’s-80’s,
kind, too friendly, and senile.  She can’t remember much and fills in the gaps with her own wishful
imaginary tales.

Bluegrass Band- 3-5
individuals of all ages and sizes and a flare for the flamboyant and the
absurd.  The more interesting looks
the better (really tall, really short, really skinny, or really round).  No musical experience necessary.

Hunter, 40’s male who loves
shooting clay pigeons even if it’s right next to a funeral.

Clay Pigeon thrower,  60’s-80’s friend to Hunter.  Never talks.  Just stares through his thick glasses.

Funeral Crowd 10-20 people
of all ages and sizes.  A couple is
needed to make out during the reception.  Everyone else is at a funeral to inappropriately party and drink booze.
