Straw Hat Theatre's season opener at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 West 13th Street in Ashtabula, will continue for one final weekend of performances on June 20, 21, 22. "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" was inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 BC). With a delightful score by Stephen Sondheim, "Forum" tells a musical story of a scheming slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. Filled with puns, slamming doors, disguises and mistaken identities, the musical's original 1963 Broadway run won several Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Book.

Writeen by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart (better known as the creator of M*A*S*H) the Straw Hat Theatre production is directed by Clay Nielsen of Madison.

All Straw Hat Theatre performances begin at 8 p.m.

Following "Forum" will be the stage production of "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the Disney film, the story tells of a magical kingdom fathoms below where the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. "Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr." will play on June 28, 29, 30, July 4, 5, 6. All shows will begin at 8 p.m.
