Los Angeles dance company
Blue13<http://www.hb.edu/cf_enotify/linkforward.cfm?n=6168&u=0&e=0&dest=http://blue13dance.com/>will
headline this year's show. Since 1999, this contemporary Indian dance
theatre ensemble has performed all over the United States and abroad in its
signature Neo-Kathak and Bollywood-Tech styles -- modern dance work that is
highly energetic, colorful, and theatrical, and inspired by the classical
and cultural dance of India. The company’s mission is to advance
non-traditional contemporary dance, while preserving and cultivating the
cultural and classical forms of India.

TAAL was conceived in 2003 by Preeti Gill, a 2005 graduate of Hathaway
Brown. She developed the event as an Edna Dawley Strnad ’42 Fellow in
Creativity, and it has been nurtured and curated by the Upper School Dance
Department since that time. The program was launched to highlight the
culture of India and to honor the memory of Joti Sawhny ’92. All proceeds
benefit The Joti Sawhny Memorial Fund at HB, which supports TAAL, along
with international student travel and dance study. Joti’s sister, Achinta
Sawhny McDaniel ’94, is the artistic/executive director of Blue13.

TAAL is an energizing and stirring tribute to some of the most beautiful
forms of dance in the world, taking its name from the word used to describe
the rhythmic patterns in Indian classical music. The dinner and performance
are open to the public, but tickets are required. Visit
