*KNOCK ME A KISS*
by Charles Smith
*(Auditions will be held in Mainstage Theatre) *
*(All roles in Knock Me A Kiss are African American)*

*ROLES:*
*Yolande Du Bois: * The 26yr old daughter of W. E. B Du Bois and Nina Du
Bois. Yolande is a romantic who has lead a very sheltered life. The
greatest love in her life is the love she has for her father.

*Jimmy Lunceford: *28 yr old big band leader. Graduate of Fisk University
and former high school teacher, Jimmy decided that the hand-to-mouth
existence of touring with his band was more important to him than
maintaining a job teaching high school. He is down-to-earth and VERY
practical, up on current trends and fashions, and meticulous when it comes
to music. He has a good business sense and loves YOLANDE dearly.

*Nina Du Bois: * Mid 60's, she is the wife of W. E. B. Du Bois. Nina has a
very provincial attitude toward sex, which she doesn't enjoy but considers
to be necessary. She lives in the shadow of her husband, whom she met when
she was a student and he was her professor. She never fully recovered form
the death of her eighteen month old son Burghardt. His death was
fundamental in forming her attitude toward her husband, W. E. B., whom she
considered responsible for Burghardt's death.

*W. E. B Du Bois:* Mid 60's, but seems much younger. Active in national
and international politics, he has come to recognize that he is a better
politician than he is a husband and a father. Even so, he considers his
personal sacrifices for the promotion of his personal agenda well worth the
trade off. He maintains a very business like relationship with his wife
and daughter.

*Countee Cullen: *25 yr old young boy poet genius and protege of W. E. B
Du Bois, he is clearly s product of the Ivory Tower, Talented Tenth
machine. He is VERY warm and charming, and a man who has used words to get
in to and out of any situation. Although he's a poet, there is nothing
effeminate about him.

*Lenora:* Friend and confidant of YOLANDE, she the down-to-earth,
no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is type of friend we all would like to have.

*SECOND SEASON AUDITIONS! *

*Same times as above.*

*AUDITIONS will be held in the Playground Theatre **for roles in*

*"THE CHAIRS" and "EXIT THE KING" by Eugene Ionesco.*

*The Chairs will be directed by Stephen Vasse-Hansell. *

*Exit The King will be directed by Ian Wolfgang Hinz.*

*Roles: "THE CHAIRS"*

*Old Man, **Old Woman, & Orator** (no need to be age specific for these
roles, but can be.)*

The play concerns two characters, known as Old Man and Old Woman,
frantically preparing chairs for a series of invisible guests who are
coming to hear an orator reveal the old man's discovery, which is implied
as being the meaning of life (it is never actually said). The guests
supposedly include "everyone", implying everyone in the world; there are
other implications that this is a post-apocalyptic world. The Old Man, for
example, speaks of the destruction of Paris. The invisibility of the guests
implies that the Old Man and Old Woman are the last two people on the
planet. As the “guests” arrive, the two characters speak to them, and
reminisce cryptically about their lives. A high point in the happiness of
the couple is reached when the invisible emperor arrives. Finally, the
orator arrives to deliver his speech to the assembled crowd. Played by a
real actor, the orator's physical presence contradicts the expectations set
up by the action earlier in the play.

*Roles*: *"**EXIT THE KING**".*

Juliette *(royal chambermaid)*, Doctor *(royal "doc")*, & The Guard *(royal
guard)*. These roles are not age specific in any way. (Open to all ages).

*Please note: The roles of King Berenger, Queen Marguerite, & Queen Marie will
be played by Ensemble members *Robert Hawkes* *(Berenger)*, *Valerie Young*
*(Marguerite)* & *Katie Nabors* *(Marie)*.

The Chairs* and Exit the King. Running concurrently, January 10th, 11th,
12th, 13th, 17th, 18th,19th. *
                                                               *The
Chairs*will perform at 6. *Exit
The King* will perform at 8.
