AUDITION NOTICE
Lost in Yonkers
by Neil Simon
Directed by Tyson Rand

Auditions: Tues., Dec. 10 & Wed., Dec. 11 at 7-9pm at Clague Playhouse, 1371 Clague Rd., Westlake
Performances: March 7 - 30, 2014  Thurs., Fri., & Sat. at 8pm, Sun. at 2pm

Characters: 4 Men, 3 Women
All seven characters are from the same family, “Grandma” being the matriarch, so a degree of believability in the presentation of a “bloodline” must be conveyed in the casting. This could result in some actors being asked to alter their hair color.

Arty (Arthur) – 13...and a half. Sharp, sporty and a little too honest.

His Brother, Jay (Jacob) – almost 16. Intelligent, sensitive, anxious to please.

Eddie (Their Father) - Early forties. Widowed, out of work & desperate.

Louie (Their Uncle) – Variable age from mid-thirties to late forties. Small time gangster.

Bella (Their Aunt) – Mid to late thirties. Mentally challenged. Her smile is her armor.

Grandma Kurnitz – Seventies. German immigrant with accent.* Bitter and guarded.

Gert (Another Aunt) – Variable age. Nervous. Has strange forced vocal/breath pattern.

*Accents – Grandma Kurnitz needs a deeply anchored German Accent – even if slightly faded over the years. ALL Other Characters will need various degrees of believable New York accents. In generalized application this is usually identified as a dropping of the “R” sound from the end of words or the end of an emphasized syllable. In stronger applications, this is often paired with vowel sounds connected to an “R” mid word, being pronounced as “oi.” While Aunt Bella and Uncle Louie should have the stronger accents, leaning toward Bronx/Upper West End - Eddie, his sons and Gert would be subtler and more Central/Staten Island in flavor. Accents are not required for the audition, but if you have accent skills, you should include that on your audition sheet.

Brief (under 2 minutes) prepared monologues will be welcomed, but not required.  Please, do not prepare monologues from the show.
A resume and head shot will be greatly appreciated. Cold reading(s) of monologue(s) and/or dialogue(s) from the show – that will be assigned at the audition – will be the primary deciding factors. Actors who are able to stay for longer periods of time will be given multiple opportunities to read. - Rehearses through Feb. Bring all potential conflicts with you to the audition, please.

A perusal script is available at the Clague Playhouse Box Office for a $10 deposit through December 7, 2013.  Box Office hours are Wednesday - Saturday from 1-6pm.

If you have questions, please contact the Box Office at 440-331-0403 and/or leave a message for the director.
