The production runs April 11-13 and children rehearsals begin in March.

General Plot:
Set in London during the Blitz, a number of struggling individuals and families come to terms with the devastating emotional and socioeconomic impact of war on the home front. This includes a proud matriarch who works in a factory that makes bomb detonators, her missing husband, and their two children, who are forced to grow up too quickly. This is a poignant account of female perseverance.

All children cast ideally should be 4-foot 8-inches, or shorter, and need to have young-sounding voices. (Height requirements may be flexible)

Available Roles for Children:

1. Schoolchildren (various ages, both genders)
There is a school scene in which I will be able to cast a handful of students. The dialogue of children in this scene is done together so no one needs to speak along. Some of these children will also be used in town scenes. Those cast for these roles need to be able to follow directions, be able to mimic (as best they can) a British accent, and have some confidence to be up on stage. Some of these kids will also be able to be the named roles below.

2. Tom Gently (an active boy who also has a soft spot)
This needs to be a boy who can pull off a cockney/British accent. He has lots of dialogue and blocking he will need to memorize. He is the younger brother of a 16-year-old role and befriends Mira, yet they bicker as kids do. Prior stage experience may be necessary, but not required.

3. Owen (boisterous, wants to be a fighting soldier)
This needs to be a boy who can pull of a proper British accent. He has some dialogue and blocking he will need to memorize. He uses a crude word. This is Nelly's brother.

4. Nelly (obedient, judgmental)
This needs to be a girl who can pull of a proper British accent. She has some dialogue and blocking she will need to memorize. She is Owen's sister.

5. Mira (playful, a know-it-all)
This needs to be a girl who can pull of a British accent. She has lots of dialogue and blocking she will need to memorize. She befriends Tom Gently yet they bicker as kids do. Prior stage experience may be necessary, but not required.

6. Body (innocent and feminine, little voice)
This needs to be a girl who can pull of any style of a British accent and be able to stay frozen for a long time. She has some dialogue and blocking she will need to memorize.

7. Val (innocent and feminine, little voice)
This needs to be a girl (scripted at 10 years old) who can pull of any style of a British accent. She has a handful of dialogue and blocking she will need to memorize. She sings a line or two of a little song.

8. Young Boy (innocent, little voice)
This needs to be a boy who can pull of a proper British accent. He has one line to say and needs to be able to look frightened, worried, concerned.
