Please respond to this request by Sunday, February 9, 2014. This position
is now open even though it was recently filled by an excellent candidate
whose schedule quickly changed. We need a talented carpenter who can jump
in and take over the build of an excellent design with a small group of
talented and enthusiastic students.

The Akron School for the Arts/Harvey S. Firestone High School in Akron,
Ohio, is now accepting applications for a Theatre Shop Foreman / Set
Builder for the upcoming production of MARY POPPINS. The position reports
to and works closely with the theatre director on the planning and
construction of all scenery for theatrical production. This position will
be responsible for setting an appropriate work schedule and recruiting a
student crew to plan, build and strike scenery. This position will also
work closely with a student-centered technical theatre board.



Firestone Theatre is a highly respected, pre-professional theatre education
program.



This is a part-time position with flexible hours generally scheduled by the
candidate for weekdays between the hours of 3:30 and 7:00 p.m. although
evening hours and weekend hours may also be included in a creative schedule.



This is an IMMEDIATE need. The position will be filled as soon as possible.



Production dates for MARY POPPINS are March 19 - 22, 2014.

*Tasks, Activities, and Responsibilities*



*The Shop Foreman / Set Builder will:*

               ·  collaborate with theatre director and scenic designer on
planning all scenic elements and creating work schedules

               ·  act as a mentor / role model to high school students,
sharing knowledge, skills, and guidance

               ·  guide and train an inexperienced crew

               ·  be ultimately responsible for guiding a student crew in
the planning, building, and striking of all physical scenery

               ·  maintain and reinforce an environment of safety for all
students and staff

               ·  assume reasonable responsibility for the general
cleanliness and organizations of the work and storage areas of the theatre

               ·  work collaboratively with theatre staff, student leaders,
and parent volunteers on the creative theatrical process







*Skills and Qualifications*



*Candidates must:*

               ·  be an experienced professional (with at least three years
or equivalent experience) and have at least a high school diploma or GED.

                ·  have demonstrated experiences working with youth; be
subject to a background check before working with minors.

               ·  be in possession of carpentry and painting skills







*An excellent candidate will also:*

               ·  be detail-oriented and self-starting

               ·   have excellent organization and communication skills

               ·  be reliable with a strong work ethic and professional
behavior

               ·   have patience, creativity, and flexibility.

               ·  be able to work as part of a team.

               ·  be able to work well with people from a wide variety of
backgrounds.





*Potential Work Schedule*



*A successful candidate will:*

               ·  plan an appropriate work schedule with approval of the
theatre director

               ·  work a mutually agreeable but as yet undetermined number
of hours per production.

               ·  likely schedule 60 to 70 hours of work call.

               ·  be available mostly during the after-school period
weekdays  from 3:30 - 7:00 p.m.

               ·  be available for production and other meetings as
appropriate
