You Can’t Take it With You was written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. The show is about a man, Martin Vanderhof, who has never paid any Income Tax, and quietly starts a war with the United States government. Vanderhof’s young granddaughter, Alice Sycamore, works for the Kirby Company. She falls in love and becomes engaged to her boss’s son Anthony Kirby Jr. Alice is concerned that her wacky family and the wealthy Kirbys will not get along. The Sycamores, headed by Vanderhof (or Grandpa) are an avant garde, slightly mad, eccentric, free spirited family that invite strangers to live with them, and spend their days pursuing their dreams (like writing, dancing and making fireworks), and eating cornflakes for dinner. The Kirbys, on the other hand, are rich, snobbish, successful business owners who are very conservative in their views. What happens when the two very different families meet (on the wrong night) adds to the delightful plot of You Can’t Take it With You.
This play is a beautiful show that focuses on the ideas of diversity, following your dreams, following your heart and finding happiness in love. It is heart-warming while also being hilarious. All three acts of the show are entirely set in the New York City Victorian style home of Martin Vanderhof in 1936.

The MLS Theatre Company is a student-run organization. Every student involved in the productions is between the ages 14-18. Each year, three shows are put on for the public. This year's season includes You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (selected to perform at the Ohio Educational Theatre Association's State Thespian Conference), Winter One Acts 2014, and You Can't Take It With You.
