Golden-years love story "The Last Romance" warms hearts at CVLT
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Joe DiPietro is known for touching moments. As the
author behind the hit musical /I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change/,
and co-writer of the Tony-winning /Memphis/, he knows a thing or two
about putting relationships on stage in a way that tugs the
heartstrings. Such is the case with DiPietro's THE LAST ROMANCE, which
opens on Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's intimate River Street Playhouse
stage on April 25 under the direction of Cindee Catalano.
THE LAST ROMANCE is the story of Ralph (CVLT vet Don Edelman), an
widower in his senior years who spots the slightly younger Carol (Mary
Jane Nottage) walking her chihuahua (played by 'Diesel') at the local
dog park. Impressed with the elegant and distant woman, Ralph decides to
take a chance on love one more time by pursuing her. His lonely sister
and caretaker, Rose (Margo Parker), does not approve. Carol isn't
particularly interested in Ralph at first, but they soon bond as Ralph
tells her about his missed chance to sing for the Metropolitan Opera
(with vocalist Andrew Kondik appearing as young Ralph), and Carol tells
him of her husband, disabled by a stroke. And yet, there are secrets to
be revealed about both of them... will their relationship blossom? THE
LAST ROMANCE is heartwarming comedy about life, loss, and the
transformative power of love.
THE LAST ROMANCE plays on CVLT's River Street Playhouse stage at 56
River Street in Chagrin Falls, April 25 - May 10, 2014, with
performances on Friday & Saturday nights at 8 PM and on Sundays April 27
and May 4 at 2 PM. The production is sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors
(Phillip Rini). Tickets are $12. Seating is limited and reservations are
recommended. Tickets for all CVLT productions can be purchased online at
CVLT.org or by phone at 440-247-8955 between 1-6 PM, Monday through
Saturday. CVLT is generously funded by Cuyahoga County residents through
Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
