For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf is a 1975 experimental choreopoem. Initially staged in California, it has been performed Off-Broadway and on Broadway, and adapted as a book, a television film, and a theatrical film. The 1976 Broadway production was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play.
This groundbreaking "choreopoem" modern day classic was first produced in New York City in 1975 with Henry Street Settlement and Joseph Papp Public Theatre and then made its Broadway debut in 1976. It is a spellbinding collection of vivid prose and free verse narrative about and performed by Black women. Twenty poems capturing the brutal, tender and dramatic lives of contemporary Black women, For Colored Girls... offers a trans-formative, riveting evening of provocative dance, music and poetry. "A triumphant event, filled with humor. Pure theatre."- New York Daily News " A poignant, gripping, angry and beautiful work."- Time
