TheatreCLE Season (Playground Theatre)
*September 11-14 & 18-21. (Thurs-Sun.)*
Set on September 12, 2001, *THE MERCY SEAT *continues LaBute’s unflinching
fascination with the often-brutal realities of the war between the sexes.
A man and a woman explore the choices now available to them in an
existence different from the one they had lived just the day before. Can
one be opportunistic in a time of universal selflessness?

Opening the* MAINSTAGE SEASON* is another *Pulitzer Prize* winning
*O'Neill* play.

*ANNA CHRISTIE*
by *Eugene O'Neill*
directed by *Ian Wolfgang Hinz*
MAINSTAGE SEASON (MainStage Theatre)
*September 26th - October 19th. (Fri.-Sun.)*
A coal barge captain spends his days at a dingy waterfront saloon, cursing
the old devil sea. A letter arrives from his long lost daughter
announcing she is coming to see him. She’s a stranger to the sea, but has
devils of her own. She sets sail with her father searching for a family
she has never known. When they rescue a powerful, rough sailor, she falls
in love. But as they journey on, her past secrets threaten her hope for a
new life. This great American play by America’s only Nobel Prize winning
playwright is an astonishing love story played out against the tempestuous
sea.
*Won the 2012 Olivier Award for "best revival".*

*Ensemble is the place for Halloween celebration! *
Ensemble will remount the critically acclaimed 2011 production of Connor
McPherson's play!
This time in the intimate playground theatre and with the use of a large
projection wall.
*ST NICHOLAS*
by *Connor McPhearson*
Starring *Dana Hart* **(*member of Actor's Equity Association)*
*TheatreCLE Season *(Playground Theatre)
*One weekend only! October 23-26th. (Thurs.-Sun.)*
*ST NICHOLAS* finds an aging jaded theatre critic recounting his obsession
with a young actress, and how that obsession leads to a journey into a
macabre world of vampires from which he almost can't escape.
*"St. Nicholas -one person, one story and a stage-is, quite simply, a
superb piece of theater." *
*-*Bob Abelman* (News Herald)*

Ensemble will also remount the critically acclaimed
*FRANKENSTEIN *
by
*Mary Shelley*Adapted by *Oakley Hall III*
*TheatreCLE Season *(MainStage Theatre)
reimagined by *Stephen Vasse-Hansell*.
*October 30-November 9th. (Thurs.-Sun.)*
Oakley Hall III, was a rising star in the theater world in the 70s until he
fell from a bridge and suffered traumatic brain injuries. The accident
subsequently changed the course of his life and career—and, in a strange
twist, brings his own life in parallel with one of literatures most
well-known protagonists, Victor Frankenstein. In the famous novel,
Frankenstein is a young scientist who, believing he has found the secret to
creating life, builds and animates a monstrous creature. However, upon
seeing it alive, Frankenstein is repulsed by his creation and abandons it...
*"In his program notes, director Ian Wolfgang Hinz writes that he hopes
Ensemble Theatre’s stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein"
becomes an annual Halloween event. I couldn’t agree more." *
*-*Andrea Simakis *(Cleveland Plain Dealer.)*

*In anticipation of the coming New Year, the most famous of party hosts
will come to life!*
Based on the American Classic novel written by *F. Scott Fitzgerald*:
*THE GREAT GATSBY*
adapted by *Simon Levy*
directed by* Ian Wolfgang Hinz *
starring *Kyle Carthens* in the title role.
*MAINSTAGE SEASON *(MainStage Theatre)
*November 14th-December 14th. (Fri.-Sun.)*
Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive
Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn
into their world of obsession, greed and danger. The breathtaking glamour
and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott
Fitzgerald's classic novel, and in Simon Levy's adaptation, approved by the
Fitzgerald Estate.
"*Somewhere out there, Jay Gatsby is smiling one of those enigmatic smiles,
with everything and nothing behind it. 'Yes, old sport,' Gatsby is saying,
'that's about right. That's about right.' Surely, that smiling sign of
approval would be Gatsby's suitably understated take on Simon Levy’s
adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby…a beautifully crafted
interpretation of the 1925 novel which defined the Jazz Age…This is indeed
a grand GATSBY*."
-*(London Free Press)*

To introduce a new *EDUCATIONAL WING* at Ensemble in January 0f 2015,
Ensemble will present an all time children's classic…
*THE NEVERENDING STORY *
Adapted by *David S. Craig*
Based upon the novel by *Michael Ende*
directed by *Ian Wolfgang Hinz*
*TheatreCLE Season *(MainStage Theatre)
January 8th- January 18th. *(Thurs.-Sun.)*
Told with all the thrills of a classic adventure, the story begins with
Bastian, a lonely boy, who stumbles into a curious bookshop where he
discovers a curious book… *"Craig's adaptation...captures the adventure
and magic of the story, creating the theatrical equivalent of a real page
turner."*
-*(Journal Sentinel)*

*Celebrating Black History Month*, Ensemble brings to life a civil rights
giant...
*THURGOOD *
by *George Stevens Jr.*
directed by *Sarah May *
*MAINSTAGE SEASON *(MainStage Theatre)

filmed version of the play which Fishburne had performed at the John F.
Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The production was described by the
Baltimore Sun as *"one of the most frank, informed and searing discussions
of race you will ever see."* On 16 February 2011 a screening of the film

Month.
