Weathervane Playhouse Summertime Special Events

8X10 TheatreFest

Is the dragon really a beautiful princess who's been put under a spell by a wicked witch? Or is she just a con artist, trying to fool the Prince who's about to slay her?

Should a young man with relationship issues trust a pill-popping therapist who uses a hand puppet as a referee during their sessions?

An estranged married couple meet at the restaurant where they went on their first date. Does it remind them of what they've lost or provide a spark to rekindle it?

These are among the stories that will unfold at The Fourth Annual 8x10 TheatreFest at Weathervane Playhouse on July 11, 12 and 13. 150 playwrights from around the country submitted ten-minute plays and the 8 Finalists will be presented that weekend. Cash prizes for First, Second, and Third Place will be awarded as determined by audience voting following each performance. After Sunday's 2:30 matinee there will be a reception and winners will be announced.

Among the Finalists are Bonnie Milne Gardner of Delaware, OH and Brandi Eaton of Stow.

Rebecca Gorman O'Neill, currently of Denver, CO, is an Akron Native who attended St. Vincent-St.Mary High School and once, in 1991, appeared onstage at Weathervane in Mastergate, a play by Larry Gelbart. She played a Senate Page "with no lines but one ear-splitting scream." Rebecca still has ties to Akron and her parents still live here, so she will be in town to see her play come alive during TheatreFest at Weathervane. (See attached statement from Rebecca Gorman O’Neill)

ordinary days

From one of the musical theater’s most exciting new composers – Adam Gwon – comes ordinary days, a refreshingly honest and funny musical about making real connections in the city that never sleeps (but probably should at some point!) Presented in an intimate concert version on the Weathervane stage, ordinary days tells the story of four New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love and cabs.

Cast: Sarah Bailey, Colin Cook, Alan Scott Ferrall and Melanie Y.C. Pepe

            Director: Alan Scott Ferrall

            Musical Director: John Ebner

ONE NIGHT ONLY! Monday, August 11, 2014 at 7 p.m.

General admission tickets are $5 each.

The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical

Weathervane’s Annual Free-Wheeling, Fundraising Benefit for Community AIDS Network

Presented in an intimate concert version on the Weathervane stage, here is a sequel with no equal! Holiday time at North Florida’s Armadillo Acres means everyone’s filled with warmth and beer. But when a freak bout of amnesia strikes the trailer park Scrooge, neighborly love is put to the test. With Betty, Lin and Pickles on hand to amp up the fracas and festivity, The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical is just as much of a cat-fightin’, sun-worshippin’, chair-throwin’ good time as the original – but this time it includes plenty of tinsel and Keg Nog!

ONE NIGHT ONLY! Monday, August 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Reserved tickets are $21 each.
