*HOLLYWOOD EFFECTS VETERAN ALAN TUSKES PROVIDES BLOOD EFFECTS FOR HBTI’S
SWEENEY TODD!*

The winner of nine Tony awards including "Best Musical," *Sweeney Todd:
The Demon of Fleet Street *is based on the infamous 19th century legend of
an unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking revenge against the
lecherous judge who tore his family apart. His thirst for blood soon
expands to include his unfortunate customers, as he gives them a shave much
closer than they bargained for, then dumps their bodies down a chute
beneath his barber’s chair.

Not surprisingly, realistic blood effects were a critical component of
successfully bringing director Bob Russell’s vision of this dark musical to
life.

Enter Emmy Award-winning makeup effects master Alan Tuskes.

A native of Cleveland, Alan honed his special effects and makeup effects
locally before taking them to Los Angeles in the late 80s, where he accrued
well over 100 film credits over the next 15 years. In particular, he
worked on a myriad of projects at Kurtzman, Nicotero and Berger FX Group,
including such projects as "From Dusk 'till Dawn," "Spawn," and the TV
mini-series "Dune," for which KNB and Al won an Emmy Award for Best Special
Effects. Since returning to Ohio to raise his children, “Big Al” now
serves as the Makeup Effects Shop Supervisor for Precinct 13 Entertainment,
ex-LA cohort Robert Kurtzman’s company in Ohio.

Alan recently spent a day with director Russell and the cast, sharing his
expertise, blood recipes and industry knowledge, all geared to take *Sweeney
Todd* to a whole new level.

“It was very exciting to have Alan as a part of our project,” said HBTI
Executive Artistic Director Fred Sternfeld. “The involvement of industry
veterans like Al is icing on the cake for us, helping us fulfill HBTI’s
mission to provide students with professional theatre training and
production experience that’s unparalleled in the area. It was a blast for
everyone involved.”
