Wolf Creek Players announces auditions for the comedy, The Phantom of the
Soap Opera, by Craig Sodaro.

Audition Dates: Sunday, August 24 at 2 pm, and Monday, August 25 at 6 PM at
Houston Hall, 3069 Houston Rd., Norton.

Production dates: November 20-22, 23 (matinee), 28, 29, 2014

Roles available: 8 males, 9 females

Synopsis:

When soap opera star Teddy Burnett is shot to death during the taping of "As
the Heart Burns", ghost stories told about Studio 13 suddenly seem true.
The fact that a Phantom takes credit for the murder frightens the cast even
more - as does the Phantom's eventual appearance and threats that the entire
show will grind to a halt as each member of the cast is picked off.

Detective Digby Wright, shabby and seemingly inept, does little to allay the
fears of the troupe. Regina Brooks, the heroine of the soap, is snatched
during a rehearsal, the maid turns up missing after sending a cryptic
message and Regina's boyfriend, Harlan Gaspar, who stars on another soap
opera, becomes the number one suspect.

Although Regina is saved from the Phantom, no one is safe until he is
caught. A masquerade ball and a costume switch allows the Phantom to
finally be caught and unmasked.

Character breakdown (age listed is that of the character, not necessarily
the actor):

During the segments of "As the Heart Burns," several of the characters play
a different role that may contrast with their "real life" role in the play.
Those are listed in italics.

Regina Brooks (f): (20's) glamorous star of the daytime soap opera, "As the
Heart Burns". While well aware of her importance, she is a realist who has
a good sense of humor and more than her share of courage. Plays: Desiree
Carstairs, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy family. Believes in love
before money.

Teddy Burnett (m): (30's) a villain on the soap opera; a professional actor
who works hard at realism - too hard. Plays: Bryon Grimshaw, a villainous
cad who stoops low enough to steal from children in his pursuit of
ill-gotten gains.

Daphne Davis (f): (50's) haughty actress who has reached the pinnacle of her
career and is beginning the slide downward even though she refuses to admit
it. Plays: Leona Carstairs, Desiree's conceited mother who believes in
money before everything else.

Blythe Davis (f): (20's) silly actress chosen more for her looks than her
abilities. Too bad she aspires to greatness. Plays: Mimi, the cheerful
maid.

Quentin Harris (m): (20's) former football player, now trying to carve a
career on television. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the necessary tools.
Plays: Todd Dillon, the heroic gardener, who believes in love, honesty,
faithfulness, respect, cleanliness and everything positive.

Noah Caine (m): (50's - 60's) gentlemanly actor who is the father figure on
the set. Plays: Dr. Murdoch, everybody's friend and convenient medical
examiner.

Sam/Phantom (m): (50's - 70's) gentleman making his living selling
sandwiches in the studio and offices of the building. Moves slowly but is a
sharp observer. He is also the mysterious, mask-covered figure in a long
black robe, cape & hat. His voice sends shivers through the rest of the
cast.

Addison Meriwether (m): (40's - 60's) nervous, irritable director who
strives for order in his life and never gets it. He never seems happy about
anything, a true pessimist.

Emily Parrish (f): (30's) long-suffering writer who has to concoct a
different scenario every time she turns around.

Lily Ponds (f): (20's) scatterbrained secretary and script girl who's got a
comment for everything.

Theodora Osborn (f): (40's - 60's) a precise, efficient producer who knows
exactly what she wants and how to get the job done. One cool lady under
pressure.

Harlan Gaspar (m): (20's) a true Southern gentleman, who holds his own
ideals highly. Chivalrous to a fault, and quite resourceful.

Millicent Crump (f): (30's - 40's) a caustic costumer who would rather work
in front of the camera than behind it. Plays: Angela, a Southern belle
turned maid.

Nellie Starr (f): (20's - 30's) a budding reporter for the National Snoop
who stops at nothing to get a story.

Digby Wright (m): (40's - 50's) a shabby, seemingly inept police officer
whose rough exterior conceals a very cunning mind. He has little patience
with this group of "artists."

Eve Potter (f): (30's - 40's) his hard-boiled partner on the case who's got
more heart than she lets on.

Auditions will consist of cold readings. Form listing experience and
conflicts will be available at auditions. If new to Wolf Creek, bring
photo. Read-thru for successful actors will be August 27 or 28 depending on
availability. Rehearsals will begin starting 1st week of September and will
be 3 days per week. Schedule will consider actor's conflicts as best as
possible.
