"Tribute to the Great American Songbook" with Green Diamond Zephyr at
LCCC's Stocker Arts Center

 

Green Diamond Zephyr will perform "Tribute to the Great American
Songbook" at 8 p.m., Fri., Sept. 26 and Sat., Sept. 27 at Stocker Arts
Center. 

 

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for LCCC students and children 18 and
under. The performance is part of the Studio Theatre Cabaret series.

 

Green Diamond Zephyr, a quartet that includes Kevin Richards, Sheela
Das, George Lee and Dan Maier, provides a performance of music ranging
from the 1920s to the 1930s based on the Great American Songbook. The
Great American Songbook represents the popular music that came out of
American theater and stage performances. The band instrumentation
includes sweet vocals, guitar, piano, flute, ukulele, keyboard, and
bass. Many of the songs are vocal in nature and include beautiful blues
and jazz standards. While not commonly heard today, the majority of the
songs are classics and will enliven the ears of the audience. 

 

Many of the songs have interesting historical aspects and the performing
artists will include informal and engaging conversation with the
audience about the songs' place in history. Kazoos will be offered to
the audience and then everyone will be invited to join in with the
program to play musical interludes to songs such as "Yes Sir, That's My
Baby" or "Ain't Misbehavin''" This is a memorable and engaging event for
all ages. Sponsors of this music are Roots of American Music, Cuyahoga
Arts and Culture, and the Ohio Arts Council.
