*(Monday, September 22, 2014 – Akron, OH)  -- *Firestone Theatre new season
includes a variety of student work designed to inspire, motivate, and
entertain. The 2014-15 theatre season marks the 20thyear of what is now
called the Akron School for the Arts and includes two full-length comedies,
a pilot production of a brand-new musical, and a wide range of special
events including a special anniversary concert featuring alumni from the
past 20 years.



The main stage season is kicked off with the light comedy *The Nacirema
Society Requests the Honor of your Presence at a Celebration of their First
One Hundred Years *by Pearl Cleague. The play features the story of Grace
Dunbar, pillar of Montgomery's African-American aristocrats and doyenne of
the Nacirema Society, an organization poised to celebrate its 100th
anniversary by presenting an exclusive group of debutantes at their annual
cotillion. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on October 9, 10, and 11,
2014. Tickets are $5.00 in advance, $8.00 at the door, and $10.00 for
reserved, VIP seating.



The laugh-out-loud comedy *Boeing Boeing* by Marc Camoletti and translated
by Beverly Cross and Francis Evans. This fast and furious French farce
features a self-styled Parisian lothario who has Italian, German, and
American fiancees, each a beautiful airline hostess. Performances will be
held at 7:30 p.m. November 20, 21, and 22, 2014. Tickets are $5.00 in
advance, $8.00 at the door, and $10.00 for reserved, VIP seating.



The Akron School for the Arts / Firestone High School is set to be the very
first school in the nation to present the other-wordly *Ghost the Musical *when
it completes the main stage season with performances on March 4, 5, 6, and
7, 2015. Curtain time is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. on Thursday
and Friday, and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. This very modern show
follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking
turn after Sam’s untimely death. Tickets for *Ghost the Musical* are $10.00
in advance and $12.00 at the door. Reserved, VIP tickets are $15.00. A
special *Spaghetti Dinner* will be held at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. between
performances on Saturday, March 4, 2015.



A reasonably priced subscription is available for the main stage shows and
more. An adult subscription can be purchased for as little as $30.00 which
represents a 50 percent savings for the season. A student subscription can
be purchased for $20.00. A reserved, VIP subscription can be purchased for
$40.00 and includes a reserved seat for each of the main stage shows, entry
to the second stage performances, and access to a special VIP room before
and at intermission of each main stage performance. Subscriptions and

Second stage performances include a wide range of theatre and other
performances. The series commences with a number of open rehearsals for the
Akron School for the Arts improv troup, *frys w/ tht?*  An audience is
invited to attend and participate starting with the first performance to be
held at 7:00 p.m. on December 9, 2014. The annual student band-centered
rock-and-roll show, *StoneStock 2014*, hits the stage at 7:00 p.m. on
December 5, 2014. The annual *One-Act Play Festival *appears on our stage
at 7:30 p.m. on January 8, 2015. All second stage events are included in
the subscription series. A special performance of *Dear Gabby: The
Confessions of an Over-Achiever* directed by guest artist Elynmarie Kazle
will be held on a date not yet determined.



A special anniversary concert will be presented at the school at 7:30 p.m.
on Saturday, January 10, 2015. This one-time-only event will feature alumni
performing numbers for their high school musicals. Tickets to this event
will cost $10.00 and are available online at BrownPaperTickets.com.
Performers and musical numbers have not been set at the time of this
writing.



Two additional performances not included on the subscription series are
designed especially for children. A performance of *Schoolhouse Rock Live,
Jr.* will be held at the Akron Civic Theatre at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday,
November 9, 2014. This fun and educational musical is produced by Firestone
Theatre under the direction of guest artist and  Miller South School
teacher Donna Kopcsik and presented by the Akron Civic Theatre as part of
their Sunday Family Series. Tickets can be purchased at the Civic box
office or on their website. Our production of *Schoolhouse Rock Live, Jr. *is
available to tour to elementary schools throughout the Akron area. A
special performance presented by the Frisch Marionette Company of
Cincinnati rounds out our season. These master puppeteers will present
their version of *The Jungle Book* featuring their beautiful, hand-crafted
puppets. Performances will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2015. Tickets for
this 45-minute show are as low as $3.00 for performances to be held at
10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at

Firestone Theatre is the award-winning play-production component of the
Akron School for the Arts housed at Firestone High School. Firestone
Theatre was named an “Outstanding School” by the Educational Theatre
Association in 2013. The curricular track of Firestone Theatre is
accessible to all rising ninth-grade students via open enrollment and a
formal audition.
