CVLT to present Arthur Miller's family drama "The Price"
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Chagrin Valley Little Theatre uses its 60-seat River
Street Playhouse for smaller and more intimate productions than the
262-seat main stage next door. The first play of CVLT's 85th Season will
open on the smaller stage October 17th: THE PRICE by Arthur Miller (The
Crucible, Death of a Salesman). The production is directed by Cindee
Catalano-Edelman, and sponsored by Wells Fargo Advisors / Phillip Rini.
THE PRICE is a moving drama about two estranged brothers who come to
their father's New York brownstone to settle the estate before the
building is demolished. Victor Franz (Frank J. Laukiavicius) is the
policeman who took care of their father rather than pursue his dreams,
while his brother Walter Franz (Bob Fortlage) is the successful doctor
who has been gone for sixteen years. Victor's wife Esther (Chris White)
is also present, urgently waiting for her husband to retire. Joining in
the messy task of sorting through the Franz family's junk, both literal
and figurative, is Solomon (Don Edelman), the mysterious appraiser and
antique dealer looking for anything of value among the late Mr. Franz'
possessions.
This is an excellent opportunity to see veteran local actors performing
the work of an American master in an intimate space. Arthur Miller was
the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize, seven Tony Awards, two Drama Critics
Circle Awards, an Obie, an Olivier, The John F. Kennedy Lifetime
Achievement Award, and the Dorothy and Lillian Gish prize.
Performances of THE PRICE are at 8:00 PM on Fridays October 17, 24 and
31, Saturdays October 18, 25, and November 1. A 2:00 PM matinee will be
performed on October 19. All tickets are $12 and advanced purchase and
arrival is recommended. Tickets can be purchased from the box office by
phone at (440) 247-8955 or via the CVLT website at www.CVLT.org. Chagrin
Valley Little Theatre's River Street Playhouse is located at 56 River
Street in the Theatre District of downtown Chagrin Falls.
CVLT is generously funded by Cuyahoga County residents through Cuyahoga
Arts and Culture and supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
