Please join us for the 11th performance of TAAL, a festive multicultural
dance celebration at Hathaway Brown School.

We are thrilled to have guest artists who want to share their cultural
values through the medium of dance.

*Highlights from this year's performance include:*

   -

   Classical Japanese performance from soloist Yuko Hashimoto in her
   traditional kimono
   -

   Live drumming and dancing from the African Dance and Drum Company Djapo
   -

   German body percussion and partner dancing from S.T.V. Bavaria
   -

   A performance of the classical Indian dance form Bharathanatyam
   -

   HB students in rainboots performing the South-African dance Gumboot
   -

   A student fusion of modern and classical Indian dance styles

TAAL takes its name from the Hindu word used to describe rhythmic patterns
used in Indian classical music. It was conceived and produced in 2003 by
Preeti Gill, a 2005 graduate of HB, as part of her Edna Dawn Strnad '42
Fellowship in Creativity. Since that time is has been lovingly nurtured and
curated by HB's Upper School Dance Department. The program was launched to
highlight the culture of India and to honor the memory of Jot Sawhny, class
of '92. All proceeds benefit The Joti Sawhny Memorial Fund at HB which not
only sustains TAAL, but also provides additional resources for
international travel for students.
