        Great Lakes Theater's 
Spectacular 'Les Miserables'



Spectacular is the only word to describe the latest revival of Les Miserables, currently overwhelming audiences at the Hanna Theatre. Every element of the show -- from powerful performances to period-perfect production values -- is impressively indelible and larger than life. And leading the charge in this crusade of creativity is stage director extraordinaire Victoria Bussert, who continues her winning streak of strong and stunning musical offerings.

All your favorite Les Miz characters are given a fresh interpretation by the triple threat ensemble. Stephen Mitchell Brown is a virile and vibrant Valjean, emotionally delivering his show-stopping  numbers "Who Am I?" and "God on High." As his misguided nemesis, Brian Sutherland takes a subtle, subdued approach to the ominously obsessed Javert.

Actresses Jodi Dominick and Keri Rene Fuller pull firmly on your heartstrings as Fantine and Eponine, respectively. Conversely, here is nothing respectable about Tom Ford and Tracee Patterson's portrayals of the shamelessly swindling Thenardier twosome.

Every member of the cast gets his or her moment to shine, and they certainly take advantage of it and seize the play. Clare Howes Eisentrout and Pedar Benson Bate are tenderly touching as the young lovers Cosette and Marius, Colin Wheeler (alternating with Colin Frothingham) is humorously heroic as Gavroche, and Lexi Cowan (alternating with Calista Zajac) is hauntingly heartbreaking as Little Cosette. Kyle Jean Baptiste, Laura Welsh Berg, Lynn Robert Berg, Brandyn Day, Ian Gould, Leah Jennings, Katie Proulx, Mickey Ryan, Alex Syiek, M.A. Taylor, and Sam Wolf all offer potent performances as well...
