*The Dark Room at CPT on March 10th! *

*This month: Featured Reading of E by Al Heartley and Open Mic! *

The Dark Room is a place where writers take center stage and their work has
a chance to grow. The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second
Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran
playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue
to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a
supportive, yet critical environment.


*Tuesday, March 10th*
The Church at CPT
(Just east of the Gordon Square Theatre Box Office)
Cleveland Public Theatre
6407 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102

 *7:00pm: *Sign-up begins for writers and actors (space is limited). *Writers
names will be drawn randomly at 7:15pm to determine whose work will be
presented. *Writers can bring up to 10 pages of work to be read; actors
will be cast on the spot!

*7:30pm: *Featured Reading of *E* by Al Heartley
*8:15pm:* Open Mic Session readings begin

*And don't forget - FREE Great Lakes Brewing Company beer!*

Suggested donation of $5 is welcomed at the door, but not required.

*ABOUT THE FEATURED READING:* What’s in a name?  Nonetheless what’s in a
letter?  For Junior, a 15 year old Black man with an unusual name, it means
just about everything.  When Junior is sent to do a writing assignment
detailing the story of his name, he uncovers a family history that is both
fascinating and burdensome.  Guided by his Aunt Elouise, an old saged world
spinner, Junior comes to discover that a name can come at a grave
price. *Directed
by* Jocelyn Prince and *Featuring* Amaan Kady, Sharon Foxx, Nathan Lilly,
Nichole Sumlin, Vincent Briley, Laprise Johnson.

*ABOUT THE WRITER: *Al Heartley is an anti-racism practitioner and arts
leader based in Cleveland, Ohio. He currently is the assistant to the
artistic and managing directors at Cleveland Play House where he previously
was the education associate. Al recently produced and directed Same
Difference by Chicago playwright Sam Roberson for Cleveland Public
Theatre’s Big Box 2014 series as well as their 2013 Springboard Series.  Al
also directed a reading of the Same Difference at Sankofa Theatre Company
in Chicago where he was briefly the associate artistic director. Al has
assisted directed in Chicago and was the dramaturgy support for a new play
by Robert O'Hara at Steppenwolf Theatre Company.   In the fall of 2014, Al
was the assistant director on Dobma Theater’s production of *A Civil War
Christmas*.  Al previously worked as the Theater Management apprentice and
Multicultural Fellow at Steppenwolf and was a Young Leader of Color for
Theater Communications Group in 2012.



Open session readings are first come, first serve until all slots have been
