David Gaddis is a Masters student at OhioUniversity looking to produce Take Flightas his Master’s Thesis film. His last film David Turner premiered at the Athens International Film festival aswell as other film festivals in the United States. 


 
Audition Notes

The casting is directed toward AfricanAmericans or biracial actors. 

The director is has a realistic style and islooking for a subtle performance that feels true to life. 


 

 

 
Drake Carter, Male, 17           

Drake is quiet but thoughtful. He’s anaverage who could achieve more if he was happier at home. As a child whenDarren would get abusive towards him or his mother, Drake would climb under hisbed and start reading comics to himself out loud to drown out the sound andpain. He would fantasize about being strong enough to take save his mother andtake them out of there.  He dreams ofbeing a comic book artist and spends most of his free time creating anddesigning characters. Drake is very fearful of his father but desperately wantsto get his mother out of the house.


 
Mara Carter, Female, 35

Mara had Drake when she was 19 years old andas such put off her college aspirations to raise her family. She wastraumatized at age 7 when her father walked out on her and her mother, shovingher into her mother’s arms and storming out the front door. Mara met Darren ata bar where he prevented an aggressive fellow airman from getting too physical.Mara got pregnant her first night with Darren and they were wed a year later.Mara feels compelled to keep the family together and having the family fallapart would be an unacceptable failure in her eyes.


 
Darren Carter, Male, 39

Darren is a military man raised by a militaryman, and it’s his only way of life. He was a troublemaker as a kid, in and outof trouble with the law and his father would beat him whenever he got caughtdoing something he wasn’t supposed to do. His father drove him down to enlistin the air force as soon as he turned 18. Darren believes his violent commanding officer molded him into a realman and sees that way of leadership as the only way to raise a family.
