*Call for Teaching Artists – ArtWorks Spring 2016*

The Center for Arts-Inspired Learning seeks applications for teaching
artists who wish to participate in the Spring 2016 ArtWorks program. *Deadline
to apply: November 20, 2015*

*WHAT IS ARTWORKS?*
ArtWorks is the only multi-disciplinary, arts-based job training program
for Northeast Ohio high school students, designed to provide instruction in
the arts while helping teens develop workplace skills and gain knowledge of
post-secondary options.  Through participation in ArtWorks and under the
guidance of professional teaching artists, teens create visual and
performance art, learn how to work cooperatively, professionally, and
responsibly, and earn a wage. Selected teaching artists will work with
diverse populations of young people with a broad range of artistic
experience.

This work will entail performing and exhibiting works of art, developing
community partnerships to provide real-world project experiences, and
guiding apprentices in the development of a professional portfolio.

*Resumes and Cover Letters from artists of all disciplines will be
considered*, including but not limited to:
*Theater, Music and/or Vocal Performance, Dance, Filmmaking, Recording
Arts, Video **Game/Web Design, Visual Arts (all forms), Poetry/Literary
Arts and Fashion/Costume Design. *

*Proposals that integrate technology, highlight community revitalization,
or interdisciplinary practices are encouraged.


*WHERE & WHEN WILL ARTWORKS TAKE PLACE?*
ArtWorks will take place at the *Tri-C Metro Campus* (2900 Community
College Avenue – Cleveland, OH 44115).  The Spring 2016 session will run*
from Tuesday, February 16th to Thursday, May 5th.* Weekly, ArtWorks will
meet *Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 pm.*

ArtWorks teaching artists are required to work pre-program (January 2016)
events for interviews and registration of apprentices as well as
orientation and planning.


*WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TEACHING ARTISTS?*

Teaching artists will:
1) Complete initial proposals, weekly work-plans, and participate in
planning sessions to create arts-based job-training curriculum. Curriculum
will reflect the outcomes of the program, including workforce skills,
artistic/personal development, and post-secondary preparedness.

2) Design projects that allow apprentices to develop 21st Century skills
such as critical thinking, problem solving, time management, professional
communication, and collaboration.

3) Guide apprentices to document work and create professional portfolios
and resumes.

4) Conduct and complete assessments, evaluations, and interviews of
apprentices.

5) Mentor apprentices, create a supportive environment for collaboration,
and facilitate the development of a diverse peer network.

6) Plan and implement a culminating exhibit or performance in collaboration
with other ArtWorks groups, in addition to other public performances.

7) Keep apprentices engaged, focused, and productive during workday.

8) Monitor and support your co-op’s adherence to the ArtWorks policies and
procedures.

*Note*: In order for the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning to adequately
evaluate a teaching artist for consideration, all requested materials and
information must be received prior to the deadline.  An interview, written
project proposal, and professional references will be required for
finalists.  *Background checks are required and must be completed at the
applicant’s expense prior to final acceptance as an **ArtWorks teaching
artist.*  After acceptance, all artists will meet with ArtWorks staff to
discuss a program theme, determine logistic and budget needs, and develop
appropriate project plans.

*TEACHING ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS:*
ArtWorks teaching artist applicants are evaluated according to the criteria
below, based upon the needs of the program:

• Experience and ability to work collaboratively with staff, fellow artists
and youth.

• Demonstrated work ethic and professionalism to serve as a mentor and role
model.

• Previous experience teaching and/or working with diverse populations of
youth ages 14-18.

• Professional artistic training, background, and work demonstrated through
work samples.

• Ability to organize, implement, and successfully complete projects in a
learning and work


*PROPOSAL QUALIFICATIONS:*
Finalists for the ArtWorks teaching artist positions will be asked to
submit a proposal which will be evaluated according to the criteria below,
based upon the needs of the program:

• Integration of work-readiness skills and post-secondary preparedness.

• Challenging to apprentices’ personal and artistic growth.

• Clarity, purpose, rigor, innovation, and focus within an arts discipline.

• Ability to support and create impact in the local community.

• Reflection of real-world work experiences.

• Unity and completeness of application, including a clearly itemized
budget.


*COMPENSATION:*
Teaching Artists work as independent contractors and receive $3,600 over
the 12 weeks of the program, including pre-program meetings and orientation.
