TONY PEFORMERS, AWARD WINNING SHOWS, TECH RODEO ALL TO BE FEATURED At LABOR
DAY THEATERE CONFERNCE 

Don't miss this opportunity to see great shows, learn from Broadway stars,
TONY performers, NYC vocal coaches, Fundraising Experts, Tech Leaders and
more right in your backyard. The Ohio Community Theatre Association's (OCTA)
2016 State Conference (titled and themed Wild, Wild OCTA) is being held
Sept. 2-5 at the Independence Holiday Inn and registration is open to all.

The weekend features fourteen, 40 minute excerpts from award winning
community theatre shows throughout the state of Ohio that will be presented
and critiqued immediately following each performance by three responders.
The excerpts were selected from regional competitions featuring some of the
best shows from each participating theatre's current season. 

Shows to be presented include: "Almost Maine", presented by Aurora Community
Theatre, "Escanaba In Da Moonlight", presented by Little Theatre Off
Broadway, "End Days", presented by Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, "Making
God Laugh,", presented by Amil Tellers of Dramatics, "The Columnist",
presented by Dayton Theatre Guild, "Jesus Christ Superstar", presented by 3B
Productions, "Unnecessary Farce", presented by The Drama Workshop, "Savin'
Up For Saturday Night", presented by Alcove Dinner Theater, "Acapulco",
presented by CenterStage Players, "Clybourne Park", presented by Sunset
Players, "Veronica's Room", presented by The Perennial Theatre, "Steel
Magnolia's", presented by Riverby Theatre Company, "The Black Bonspiel of
Wullie Maccrimmon", presented by Black Swamp Players and "1776", Presented
by The Hudson Players.

Workshops are being offered in three theatre related tracks: Admin, Tech and
Performance. Each track is outlined below. 

Performance Track Workshops: YOUR VOICE, YOUR REPERTOIRE...IN PROGRESS,
RAISING YOUR VOCAL HEALTH AWARENESS - Workshop Leader: D. Michael Heath, -
Broadway Performer/ International Concert Artist/Singing Voice Specialist
and Vocal Coach to Broadway stars. ROAD TO BROADWAY< ACTING TIPS FOR
APPROACHING ROLES AND IMPROVING YOUR CRAFT, AUDITION TECHNIQUES TO WIN THE
PART - Workshop Leader: Lisa Howard - Broadway actress, 2015 TONY performer
and movie actress from "Breaking Dawn - Part 2,"

Tech Track Workshops: SOUND DESIGN FOR COMMUNITY THEATERS, HIGH TECH ON A
LOW BUDGET - 
Workshop Leader: Dan Jankura freelance sound engineer and theatrical sound
designer since 2002. Dan has designed regionally for Great Lakes Theater and
their sister company Idaho Shakespeare Festival in Boise, Idaho. He has also
worked for Baldwin Wallace University and Kent State University. SCENE
PAINTING IN A NUTSHELL, IS IT REAL OR IS IT FOAM?, SET BUILDING TIPS AND
TRICKS: Workshop Leader: Kelly Wiegant Mangan, Member of the Design/Tech
Facility at Bowling Green State University, Member of S.P.A.M., USITT.
PROJECTION DESIGN - GETTING THE MOST DESIGN FOR YOU DIME - Workshop Leader:
T. Paul Lowry, Freelance Designer, NY, Chicago, Cleveland.

Admin Track Workshops: IMPROVING YOUR THEATRE'S ANNUAL FUND RESULTS, FINDING
FOUNDATION SUPPORT - Workshop Leader: Don Bernardo, Director of Development
for Great Lakes Theater. R*E*S*P*E*C*T (or, your responsibility to the
playwright doesn't end when you license the show) - Workshop Leader: Tari
Stratton from the Dramatists Guild of America (the national association of
playwrights, composers and lyricists), SHOW LICENSING INS AND OUTS: SAVE
TIME, SAVE MONEY AND STAY LEGAL, MTI RESOURCES TO IMPROVE, ENHANCE AND
STREAMLINE YOUR NEXT MUSICAL - Workshop Leader: Jim Merillat with Music
Theatre International, Playwright. PUBLICITY: FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS.

Other weekend activities include a Tech Rodeo, Banquet and Dance (title
Twilight Under the Stars), Friday night OCTA Jr. Event and Social, Late
Night Entertainment and more. Participating theaters will also be provided a
written publicity guide to take home with them.
