THEATRE AUDITIONS FOR SILENT SKY AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY AT STARK NOV. 29-30
Auditions open to all, including students and members of the community

(NORTH CANTON, OH, Nov. 17, 2016) - The Kent State University at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the next theatrical production of the season, Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson, and directed by Kent State Stark Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community members. Kent State Stark Theatre encourages diversity in its casting.

Based on the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, Silent Sky takes you on a journey in Leavitt's shoes as a female astronomer at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s - a time when the ideas of women did not come to fruition until men accredited the theories for their own gain. Leavitt must learn to accommodate her love of science with her family responsibilities and her place as a woman in the early 20th century.

Auditions will be held on Nov. 29-30 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The campus is closed Nov. 24-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Roles are available for four women and one man. There are no roles for children in the production. Those auditioning may perform a prepared monologue, if they wish, and the director will choose sides (selected scene excerpts) to perform. Performance dates are Feb. 24-25 and March 3-4, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kent State Stark Theatre. Rehearsals begin Dec. 18 and break for the holiday on Dec. 22, resuming Jan. 3, and will occur five evenings a week until opening. Visit www.kent.edu/stark/theatre-auditions<http://www.kent.edu/stark/theatre-auditions> for more information about auditions for this production.

Scripts (and audition sides or scene excerpts used for the auditions) are available for perusal for periods up to 24 hours from the Fine Arts secretary (330-244-5151), Monday through Friday, during business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). Audition appointments are recommended, but not required. Scripts will also be available in the reserve area of the Kent State Stark Learning Center.
