The Wadsworth Footlighters announce an open audition call for the first
show of the 2017 season, a zany comedy of the highest order, “Drinking
Habits” by Tom Smith.

Auditions will occur at Grace Lutheran Church located at 146 High Street,
Wadsworth, OH 44281 on the following dates:

Sunday, March 19th at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Monday, March 20th at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

SYNOPSIS: The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing, Sister Augusta and Sister
Philomena, in an act of desperation, are secretly making wine and selling
it, in an effort to keep the convent from closing. Mother Superior, who is
opposed to alcohol entirely, is kept in the dark about this little prize
winning secret. Enter Paul and Sally, reporters and former fiancées, hot on
the trail of the winemaking nuns. They go undercover as a nun and priest,
but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, Mary
Catherine, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent
from Rome to shut them down. Caretaker George and Father Chenille harbor
jealousies, missed opportunities and pasts that have aged over the years
like a bottle of vino. Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone
tries to preserve the convent.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

Mother Superior: Age range 40 plus – tee totaling head of the convent where
“the devil’s hair tonic” is being made right under her nose. Worried
convent will be shut down by spies sent from Rome and will go to great
lengths to stay open.

Sister Augusta: Age range 30 plus – Good hearted but willing to do anything
to prevent Mother Superior from finding out about her an Sister Philamena’
s alternate pressing plans

Sister Philamena: Age range 30 plus – Very innocent but has a heart of
gold. Has a very hard time concealing the operation she and her cohort
Sister Augusta are involved in.

Sister Mary Catherine: Age range mid 20 plus – Transferred to Sisters of
Perpetual Sewing. She knows that she belongs in this convent, but is hiding
a secret that brought her there.

Sally: Age range mid 20 plus – Serious newspaper reporter that feels she’s
on the brink of cracking open an expose to put her into Ace reporter status
after many years of being held back. Goes undercover to grab the expose of
a lifetime.

Paul: Age range mid 20 plus – Sally’s fiancé that she left at the altar to
pursue her dreams. Strong physical comedy skills are extremely helpful to
portray this character. Forlorn and henpecked, he’ll do anything to get
Sally back including putting on long flowing robes.

George: Age range mid 20 plus – Simple, Innocent Care taker and maintenance
man for the convent.

Father Chenille: HAS BEEN CAST

Actors:

No monologues. Cold Read form the script. First time actors are warmly
welcome. Please bring current headshot if available (not required), and
conflict dates with you. Production runs May 18 through May 21, 2017.
Auditions will be a cold read from the script. The rehearsal schedule will
be determined on cast availability and conflict schedule. Rehearsals run
Sunday through Thursday evenings.

CREW MEMBERS & NEWBIES: Audition nights are a perfect time to come out,
meet the director, and express your interest in helping out backstage, be
it in the role of a stage manager, lights & sound operator, concessions, or
whatever else you might like to do.

They’re also GREAT for first-timers to come out and observe how things are
done, maybe express interest in being a helper, or read for a part! You
never know what can happen!
