Karamu House, the oldest African-American theatre in the country, continues its mission to produce socially-relevant, professional-quality entertainment.  You Can't Take It With You will close Karamu's 2016-2017 season and will run from April 20 through May 7, 2017.  All performances will be held at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus Mandel Theatre.

When a wealthy Wall Street family collides with a slightly-batty but "eccentric" NYC family, the hilarious hijinks that ensues is nothing short of explosive. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman is a classic American romantic comedy that smartly arranges farce, wit, and social commentary, with optimism and compassion.  One of the most popular and successful plays of modern times, this quintessential play takes you on a wild romp you won't soon forget.

The original production premiered on Broadway in 1936 at the Booth Theatre and played for 837 performances, winning the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.  Adapted for the screen in 1938, the film starred James Stewart, Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore, Ann Miller and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, and garnered the Academy Award for Best Picture. The most recent 2014 Broadway revival, directed by Scott Ellis, starred James Earl Jones, Rose Byrne, Elizabeth Ashley, and Annaleigh Ashford earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Revival of a Play in 2015.
