Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth & Teen Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on November 18 & 19, 2017 for the third production of our 69th Anniversary Season:

THE LARAMIE PROJECT
Written by Moisés Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project
Directed by Becca Ciamacco

The Story:
In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. Matthew Shepard died several days later - the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project visited Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial, conducting more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

Audition/Callback dates: (open to Beck Center students ages 12 to 19*)

· Saturday, November 18: 2:00 to 5:00pm

· & Sunday, November 19: 1:00 to 3:00pm

You may sign up for a one-hour audition slot at Beck Center Customer Service or by calling 216-521-2540 x10.

*Please note: Teen Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2018 semester. Students do not need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment in our Winter/Spring 2018 semester. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2018 semester class in Beck Center’s Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible.

Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. Any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Kronenberger, Associate Director of Theater Education, at jkronenberger at beckcenter.org<mailto:jkronenberger at beckcenter.org>.

Unlike some other youth theaters, there is NO additional participation fee required beyond enrollment.
