About the play...
En el Tiempo de las Mariposas is a fictionalized account of the courageous Mirabal sisters from the Dominican Republic. The sisters inspired resistance cells throughout the country against the dictatorial regime of Gen. Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The "butterflies," their secret code name, were brutally murdered by the regime in 1960. En el Tiempo de las Mariposas paints a visual dreamscape of the activist sisters' interior lives, the beauty and ferocity of the natural world and the music heard on the radio of the time. Performed in Spanish with English supertitles. Regional Premiere.

About The Director...
Julia Sosa is an El Paso-Texas based theatre professional and alumni of University of Texas at El Paso's Theatre and Dance Department. Julia was recently seen as the Assistant Director of Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Mojada: Una Medea in Los Angeles by Luis Alfaro. She is a songwriter and vocalist of Lunatic a Juarez-El Paso musical project that has opened for bands like Café Tacvba, Hellow Seahore and Natalie LaFourcade'. She is excited to be returning to Cleveland after serving as the Education Apprentice (2015-2016) at Cleveland Play House.

About the rehearsals...
Rehearsals begin around January 2nd. With Rehearsals are 4-5 times a week and then moving to 5-6 times a week in the last few weeks. Rehearsals will be weekday evenings and weekends. Actors may be accepted with some rehearsal conflicts and limitations.
Previews February 22nd. Runs February 23rd - March 10th. Gordon Square Theatre.

Auditions are by appointment only. You can schedule for either Fri 12/15 OR Sat 12/16.

What to prepare...

·         A short reading (or memorized) piece that demonstrates your acting ability

·         Be ready to read sides, propose strong characters, and work with the director.

·         Headshot and Résumé if available

About The Playwright...
Caridad Svich is a playwright-songwriter-translator and editor. Her play Iphigenia Crash Land Falls on the Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart (a rave fable) recently received its world premiere at 7 Stages in Atlanta. She has held an NEA/TCG Residency at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre, a TCG/Pew residency at INTAR Theatre, and has been a Radcliffe Institute fellow at Harvard University. Twelve Ophelias (a play with broken songs) was presented at Baruch Performing Arts Center in New York in March 2004, and her multimedia collaboration (with Nick Philippou & Todd Cerveris) The Booth Variations at 59 East 59th Street Theatre in August 2004. Her play Magnificent Waste was the recipient of the 2003 National Latino Playwriting Award and selected for the 2004 Tribeca Film Institute All Access Open Stage program.
