LCCC Stocker Arts Center Hosts James F. Pye Community Art Exhibit

The Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College will host the James F. Pye Community Art Exhibit from Monday, August 20 to Tuesday, October 30. An artists' reception will be held on Thursday, August 23 from 4-7 p.m. in the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery.

Entertainment at the reception will include musical performances by The Undisputed Funk Band, the African Royalty Dance Team and the Wesley UMC Praise Dancers, poetry by Patricia Pye and more.

James F. Pye Sr. was born in Woodland, Georgia. His passion for drawing followed him when migrated to Lorain to work at the U.S. Steel Mill. He was a self-taught artist who specialized in drawing and painting portraits, landscapes and industrial scapes. He was commissioned for various private projects and is known for drawing and painting with vivid colors and detailed subject matter. Pye died in 2006. The James F. Pye Community Art Exhibit was developed through the "Start with Art" program with the help of his children, artist Jeffery Pye Sr. and artist Sharon Pye-Brown. The James F.  Pye Community Art Exhibit hopes to educate and re-educate the youth of minority contributions in an effort to make the local community, city, country and the world a better place.

LUSH: An Exhibition and Sale of Original Works by Master Printmaker David C. Jansheski will also be on display from Monday, August 20 to Friday, September 14 at the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery.
