>From Dover Players Community Theater:   Actors and actresses needed for
roles in The High Road, a new drama by an award-winning local playwright,
Gregory J. Lavelle. 

 

 

MINIMUM CAST REQUIREMENTS

7 Caucasian males, 2 Caucasian females, 3 African-American males, 1
African-American female, 1 African-American male child. 

 

Additional casting note:  Any number of African-Americans can participate in
the slave house scene and any number of African-American children can
participate in the school scene.  

 

 

SYNOPSIS:  The High Road is set in the parlor of a mansion on a cotton
plantation in Alabama in February of 1860, the year before the start of the
Civil War.  James Forsythe, age twenty-five, has just returned from studying
in the North after the sudden death of his mother.  When informed that his
father is dying and that he must take over the plantation, he forces a moral
dilemma.  He has come to believe that slavery is wrong and determines to
free his slaves.  He soon realizes that the slaves are held down more by
their lack of education that their physical chains.  James determines to
take the high road to lead them to freedom.

 

 

PERFORMANCE DATES:  Feb. 8-10, Feb. 15-17 and Feb. 22-24

PERFORMANCE TIMES:   Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm

PERFORMANCE and REHEARSAL LOCATION:  NOUMC, 4600 Dover Center Road, North
Olmsted, OH 

 

 

REHEARSALS:  From 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm Mondays through Thursdays beginning on
Monday, January 7th
