HAPPY HOUR CLASSIC FILM SERIES CONTINUES AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE
Six Films from the American Film Institute’s Top 100 List

(Cleveland, OH) The Capitol Theatre, located in the heart of the Gordon Square Arts District at Detroit Ave. & W. 65th St., continues its commitment to presenting classic films on the big screen with its popular HAPPY HOUR CLASSIC FILM SERIES returning January 30th with GOODFELLAS.

In 2019 the Capitol Theatre will present monthly screenings of classic films from the American Film Institute’s Top 100 List of the Greatest American Films of all Time. Each screening will include a Happy Hour cocktail party in the lobby before the feature. Admission to the film includes a mini-cocktail (or soft drink), appetizers and live music at the Happy Hour cocktail party from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.



“The Happy Hour Classics are a great way for film fans to mix and mingle with other movie lovers before seeing one of their favorite titles on the big screen,” says David Huffman, Cleveland Cinemas Director of Marketing and programmer of the series. “All of the films programmed in the 2019 series are certified classics from the American Film Institute and are required viewing for any movie fan.”


The first films in the series are as follows:



GOODFELLAS (1990)

Directed by Martin Scorsese

Starring Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco

Play date: January 30th

Time: 7:00 PM (pre-film Happy Hour reception begins at 6:00 PM)

Director Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning gangster masterpiece is based on the life of Henry Hill, a half-Irish, half-Sicilian Brooklyn kid who climbs the ranks of a Mafia family.

#92 on the AFI Top 100.



NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) - 60th Anniversary

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock

Starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason

Play date: February 27th

Time: 7:00 PM (pre-film Happy Hour reception begins at 6:00 PM)

Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint star in this classic Hitchcock thriller about a man embroiled in a web of intrigue and murder that takes him across the country to prove his innocence.

#55 on the AFI Top 100.



SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952)

Directed by Stanley Donen & Gene Kelly

Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds

Play date: March 20th

Time: 7:00 PM (pre-film Happy Hour reception begins at 6:00 PM)
Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds star in perhaps the greatest movie musical of all time. Set during the dawn of the talkies, the score includes classics such as “You Are My Lucky Star,” “Make ‘Em Laugh,” and “Singin’ in the Rain.”

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991)

Directed by Jonathan Demme

Starring Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins

Play date: April 24th

Winner of 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay, this intense thriller about a young FBI agent tracking a serial killer made Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter a household name.

ALL ABOUT EVE (1950)

Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz

Starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders

Play date: April 24th

This Oscar-winning drama features Bette Davis as an aging star who finds a hungry new actress waiting in the wings to fill her shoes at any cost.

DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB (1964)

Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott

Play date: April 24th

Time: 7:00 PM (pre-film Happy Hour reception begins at 6:00 PM)
Stanley Kubrick’s Cold War comedy starring Peter Sellers and George C. Scott is one of the greatest political satires of all time.
Ranked #39 on the AFI Top 100.

Each film will play in the renovated main auditorium of the Capitol Theatre.
