STARTING NEXT WEEK: SUMMER THEATER CAMPS, AND CLASSES AT BECK CENTER

Beck Center for the Arts' Theater Department kicks off our summer session of theater camps on Monday, June 10! We've got camps for ages 7-19, including focuses in improv, acting and musical theater. In addition, our early childhood theater and adult acting and improv classes start the week of June 10.

Theater Camps:

Junior Theater Camp (Ages 7-12)
Session 1 #6895 June 10-28
June 11-29; Monday-Friday; 3 weeks; 12:30-2:30 pm*; $270
Performances: June 28 at 2:30 & 6:30 pm

Our Junior Theater Camp is designed for all students, whether or not they have prior performance experience. Campers are broken into smaller groups based on age and work with theater professionals, learning about acting, singing, and dancing while rehearsing their own original show. Campers present this show - featuring acting scenes and musical numbers - twice for family and friends on the last day of camp in our Music & Dance Building Recital Hall. Students MUST be available for BOTH performances to participate. Tuition does not include admission to performances. Tickets to performances are $5 each. Performance seating is limited.

There is a 30-minute informational orientation for parents and students on the first day of camp, including further information and materials regarding tickets and performances.

*Lunch-time supervision is provided for students enrolling in both the Junior Theater and Visual Arts Camps.

Improv Camp: Beck Improv Showcase (Ages 13-19) #6897
Presented in collaboration with "Something Dada" Cleveland's Premiere Improvisation Comedy Company
June 10-21; Monday-Friday; 2 weeks; 5:30-8:30 pm; $205;
Performances on June 21 & 22 at 7:30 pm

Headed by a founding member of Something Dada, Russ Stich, this camp is great for both new students of improv as well as veteran performers. Students explore the basic concepts of improvisational theater with an emphasis on the theatrical and audience-interactive aspects. This two-week workshop focuses on creating a completely improvised performance based on suggestions from a live audience. It's a guaranteed comedy blast! Students MUST be available for BOTH performances to participate. Tuition does not include admission to performances. Tickets to performances are $5 each.

Early Childhood Classes:

Acting Adventures (Ages 4-6)
Tuesdays 6/11/19-7/16/19 11:00-11:45 am; #6957; $80
Tuesdays 6/11/19-7/16/19 4:30-5:15 pm; #6958; $80

This class is designed to introduce children to theater through improvised imagination as each week students collectively conquer a new adventure. Students focus on projecting their voices, listening for directions, developing stage presence, and working together while stretching their imaginations. Parents are welcome to attend the final class to participate in one of these amazing adventures.

Kids-N-Theater (Ages 2-4)

*Additional siblings receive a 20% discount; No charge for parent/caregiver.

Children take part in basic theater skills (singing, movement and acting) in a lively, creative, positive classroom atmosphere. Parents/caregivers participate during every session. Each class provides an opportunity for everyone to share in the theatrical experience. No Class July 4th

Little Folks Theater I (Ages 4-6)
Thursdays 6/13/19-7/25/19 10:00-10:45 am; #6961; $80
Thursdays 6/13/19-7/25/19 4:30-5:15 pm; #6962; $80

Little Folks introduces our younger students to the magic of theater, and is also designed for returning students as new experiences and materials are explored each semester. Children engage in lively classroom activities involving creative dramatics, movement, listening skills, and creative art. This class stresses positive interaction and self-development, and concludes with an informal presentation for family and friends. No Class July 4th

Adult Classes:

Adult Acting: The Basics (Ages 18-Up) #6954
Mondays 6/10/19-7/15/19; 6:30-8:30 pm; $120

Classical and contemporary techniques are explored in polishing craft along with keys to unlocking scripts and bringing them from the page to the stage. All experiences welcomed. Audition pieces conquered.

Adult Improv: The Basics (Ages 18-Up) #6956
Thursdays 6/13/19-8/8/19; 6:45-7:45 pm; $80

A fun and lively exploration of the basic tools and techniques used in improvisational theater. Perfect for both the beginner as well as the experienced actor. Focus is on the skills used to create an improvised scene and help develop the student's ability to envision, develop and sustain stories. No Class July 4th

Adult Improv: Games (Ages 18-Up) #6955
Thursdays 6/13/19-8/8/19; 8:00-9:00 pm; $80

Improvisational games and team competition are explored as students apply the essential concepts of improvisational theater. A fun way for students to develop their improvisational skills. No Class July 4th
