The Great Work Begins… Again.

Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches By Tony Kushner

Produced by special arrangement with Broadway Play Publishing Inc, NYC, www.broadwayplaypub.com<http://www.broadwayplaypub.com/>

Wednesday, June 24 via private Live Stream

8:00pm EST (7:00 CST, 6:00pm MST, 5:00pm PST)

Almost five years ago, Baldwin Wallace University produced this monumental play, which had a significant impact on the lives of those who worked on it. In May, when faced with a lack of creative outlets due to a pandemic, the cast discussed reuniting to read the show that gave us so much creative fulfilment and hope for change when we first read it. Since our first discussion of a reunion, circumstances have shifted, but our hope for change remains the same.

In that spirit, we invite you to a broadcast staged reading of the show that means so much to us. To access the live performance, we ask that you give a donation of ANY size to The Black AIDS Institute by visiting https://blackaids.org/donate/ or by texting “BlackAIDS” to 91999. After you have donated, email a screenshot or receipt of your donation to angelsreading4bai at gmail.com<mailto:angelsreading4bai at gmail.com> and you will receive the private info to access the live stream.

As you consider a donation to this organization in relation to this play, Emma Dahl puts it best:

“this play is… part of the LGBT political movement and the LGBT literary canon, it owes a great debt to queer black people. LGBT art, culture, politics, and praxis were all galvanized by queer black people, queer indigenous people, and queer people of color. These community members took bold and necessary action before, during, and after the Stonewall riots. This play would not exist without the work they put into bringing LGBT issues to light and LGBT action to life. And there is still a great deal of work to do in regard to addressing racism and dismantling white supremacy in the LGBT community.”

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the email above. This is a virtual staged reading, but we are doing everything we can to do justice to the material and the memories. Join us, won’t you?
