UA THEATRE PRESENTS VIRGINIA WOOLF’S “THE WAVES”

A virtual production embarks this fall at the University of Akron

Akron, OH – The University of Akron (UA) Theatre Program begins its
2020-2021 season with an adaptation of “The Waves,” a novel by Virginia
Woolf which follows six friends at various points throughout their lives
with lush and vibrant stream-of-consciousness monologues. Directed by Dr.
Brian Schultis, UA Senior Lecturer of Theatre, the playpoem features a cast
of 6 UA students.

UA’s “The Waves” welcomes the opportunities of a virtual platform and will
question what’s possible in the current landscape of live performance.
Online showings for “The Waves” will be hosted November 5, 6, 7 at 7:00
P.M. and November 8 at 2:00 P.M. A special matinee will also be available
on November 7 at 10:00 A.M. for schools. Tickets are free for all audiences
with preregistration, but seating is limited. To reserve tickets online,

Director Brian Schultis says: “This production will weave these stories to
create an intimate virtual theatre piece that embraces the challenges of
theatre in the midst of a pandemic – going back to the simple but profound
foundations of the actor’s work – breath, sensual awareness, rhythm.”

The Theatre Arts Program at The University of Akron equips undergraduate
and graduate students with a broad knowledge of theatre arts and
fundamental practical skills in order to prepare them to address the
emerging issues and challenges of the theatre profession in a diverse and
vibrant society. The Theatre Arts Program provides high quality educational
and artistic experiences that enhance the cultural lives of all students at
The University of Akron, as well as the residents of the greater Akron
