Hudson Players Announces Fun-Filled 2021-2022 Season

Domestic Tranquility, Something Rotten and The Bikinis Will

Delight Audience Members

The fun kicks off with the Ohio premiere of Domestic Tranquility, a farcical comedy involving the perfect 1950s family upended by three escaped convicts with bad table manners. Next up, the Hudson Players will be one of the first community theatres in Ohio to present the Tony-nominated musical Something Rotten, a hilarious mash-up of 16th-century Shakespeare meeting 21st century Broadway. The season concludes with The Bikinis, a girl group jukebox review that will have audience members dancing in the aisles.

"The Hudson Players family has missed seeing our patrons and friends! Beginning this fall, we are so looking forward to welcoming people back to the Barlow Community Center with an amazing slate of live theatre shows," said Michelle Dolciato, president of the Hudson Players. "We celebrated our 75th anniversary in March of 2020, the week before the pandemic changed everything, including cancelling the remainder of our season. While our organization was able to perform several virtual productions during our 76th year; we hope our patrons return in person to join us as we celebrate 77 seasons of good shows, good friends and good times!"

Written by Rich Orloff, Domestic Tranquility is a comedic caper that runs November 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 19, and 20. Meet the Millers, a typical 1950s suburban family. Ethel is the mom, obsessed with a clean house and insists the house rules are followed. Dad, Herbert, is a nice guy but suitably clueless. And Cindy is the teenage daughter whose hormones are starting to kick in. On a day like any other, three escaped convicts with bad manners show up looking for a place to hide, and hilarity ensues. Ethel is more worried about the mess to clean up than her own safety. With her 18th birthday looming, Cindy is attracted to the handsome younger convict, whose brother Lou is the ringleader of the gang with an affinity for reciting the death scenes from famous gangster movies. The final convict is mute, food-loving and focus-stealing every time he is on stage. As the uninvited guests make themselves at home, Herbert is stirred to action and hatches a humorous plan to save his family and reclaim his household. This wild ride of a play combines the nostalgia of the '50s with the craziness of farce.

Auditions for the show are September 12-13, 2021, at 7:00 pm at the Barlow Community Theatre.

Something Rotten, recently nominated for multiple Tony awards, is a zany, crowd-pleasing musical comedy that runs February 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, and 26. Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike and hailed by Time Out New York as "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years!"

A humorous promotional video for the show is available at www.facebook.com/hudsonplayers<http://www.facebook.com/hudsonplayers>.

Set in the time of Shakespeare, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first "musical." Something Rotten features large song and dance numbers, and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters. A highlight is the "A Musical" number, a legendary song that includes 20 different homages to Broadway favorites from Annie to Les Mis to South Pacific and A Chorus Line. Throughout its Broadway run, this musical number often received a show-stopping standing ovation from audiences... in the beginning of the first act!

Auditions for Something Rotten are November 7 and 8, 2021, at 7:00 pm.

The Bikinis is a jukebox revue by Ray Roderick and James Hindman, with musical arrangements by Joe Baker, that runs April 29, 30, May 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, and 21. The show revolves around the reunion of "The Bikinis," a beloved four-member girl group, years after their success on the Jersey Shore on New Year's Eve to raise money for the good folks at Sandy Shores RV Resort. Jersey-born Jodi is a corporate success with a failed marriage. She always wants to be in control and is a bit passive aggressive. Annie, Jodi's sister, is still a bit of a hippie and a rock and roller at heart. Never married, she took care of her parents at the Sandy Shores RV Resort. Karla is the sisters' fun-loving cousin from Philly. A wild teenager, she still likes to stir it up with pop and rock songs and has been happily married for 25 years. And Barbara is their best friend from Staten Island. She says what she thinks with no apologies. The girls relive their heyday, beginning with the day in 1964 when they got their name while winning a talent contest in their bikinis. Hit songs include "Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," "Under the Boardwalk," "Where the Boys Are," "These Boots Were Made for Walking," "It's Raining Men," and many others. Auditions are February 13 and 14, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

Showtime for Friday and Saturday Hudson Players performances is 8:00 pm; Sunday matinees begin at 2:00 pm.
