All roles in this production will receive a stipend.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

The Twentieth CenturyWay by Tom Jacobson is a two-personplay and a real tour de force for two good actors. The two characters arethemselves actors, Brown and Warren, and the play is based on the true story oftwo actual actors who hired themselves out in 1914 to the Long Beach, CA policedepartment to entrap gay men in private clubs and public restrooms for “oralsodomy.” But it’s a fictionalized, very theatrical version, starting with thetwo actors Brown and Warren waiting backstage before a movie audition. It turnsout to be a long wait and to pass the time, Warren challenges Brown to animprovisation – which becomes the story of entering the hidden world ofrestrooms and private parties (mostly the latter) and the interactions with themen they ensnare.

Over the course of the “improvisation” they each play 6 – 10roles, dropping in and out of character (i.e. back to Brown and Warren) inrapid succession. The play is as much about the nature of acting (both onstageand off) as it is about the relationship between the two men, sexual identity,institutionalized corruption and the conscience of civil servants carrying outquestionable duties. (Also been described as “hilariously funny andsimultaneously deadly serious”)

Sunday, Oct 17 from 2-4p.m. at the Liminis Theater, 2438Scranton Rd. Cleveland 44113 (Tremont neighborhood)

PRODUCTION DATES:  Dec 3 – 18 (eight performances, Thu-Sat evenings)
