Synopsis - When Savannah inherits a fortune from the father who was never
there, she thinks love will finally come easy. But money brings out motives
she never saw coming. As trust crumbles, she must choose between the man
who truly loved her and the one who played her heart for profit. *The Cost
of Love* is a powerful, soul-stirring story about betrayal, family, and
learning that real love can’t be bought, but it will cost you everything
because the grass isn't greener on the other side.

We’re looking for *African American men* (ages 30–65 and are negotiable) to
fill five roles as the lead or understudy in the upcoming stage play *The
Cost of Love*. No acting experience is needed, we want real people who can
bring honesty, presence, and emotion to the stage. Roles include romantic
leads, family protectors, and sharp-tongued truth-tellers. Descriptions are
below. Submit a video of a 2-minute monolog of your choice.

*TROY CARTER*
*Age Range:* Late 30s to Early 40s
*Character Description:*
Troy is the man every woman says they want—but often overlook. He’s loyal,
emotionally available, and the kind of man who builds dreams with his
partner, not just for himself. Though life has bruised him, it hasn’t
broken his ability to love. Looking for an actor who can bring warmth,
vulnerability, and quiet strength. Ability to carry heartfelt monologues
and show emotional depth.

*JULIUS MORGAN*
*Age Range:* Late 30s to Early 40s
*Character Description:*
Julius is smooth, charming, and intelligent—exactly the kind of man who can
make anyone believe his lies. Beneath his polished exterior lies
manipulation and an agenda. The actor must have a commanding stage
presence, able to transition between romance and subtle menace without ever
raising his voice. Looking for someone who can portray both a lover and a
con man convincingly.

*DAMON CARTER*
*Age Range:* Early 40s
*Character Description:*
Damon is Savannah’s cousin and the family protector. He’s street-smart with
a sharp tongue, always skeptical of anyone trying to get close to his loved
ones. A true watchdog. The actor should bring intensity, realness, and
humor. Damon is the voice of the audience—the person who says what everyone
else is thinking. Looking for someone who can deliver powerful, grounded
performances.

*RAY*
*Age Range:* Mid 60s
*Character Description:*
Uncle Ray is the family’s moral compass. He’s wise, calm, and chooses his
words carefully. When he speaks, people listen. Seeking an actor who can
embody quiet authority and bring a natural, relatable uncle vibe to the
stage. Age and acting experience are flexible as long as the presence feels
genuine.

*CHARLES WHITMAN*
*Age Range:* Early 60s
*Character Description:*
Charles is a professional estate attorney—sharp, composed, and deeply loyal
to Savannah’s late father. His calm demeanor cuts through the family’s
chaos to deliver critical truths. The actor should have a dignified
presence and be able to command the room with understated power. Prior
stage experience is helpful but not necessary
